When moving the a model using my SpaceMouse (wireless), this little blue cube shows up. I can’t find a “little blue cube” setting or description.
I am using a Mac M2 laptop. OS 15.1.1. 3DConnexion driver 10.8.6. Sketchup 24.0.598. My sign is Yield and my favorite color bacon.
I apologize if this is obvious or has been discussed. A search for “tiny floating blue cube” or variants did not produce a result on the forum. A google search was less than helpful…
It’s a thing that 3DConnexion added to the latest release of their driver. I don’t know what it means. It seems to appear at random locations on the view. It only shows when the space mouse is manipulating the SketchUp view. I haven’t checked yet to see whether it can be turned off - it’s pretty inconspicuous.
It would be nice to know what it is for. I know it is not:
-an indication of the center of rotation.
-an indication of the center of zooming.
-an indication of something obviously useful.
As seems to be the case most of the time with 3DConnexion, I think this feature arrived on Mac long after it was added on Windows. Also in keeping with their usual practice, it is hard to find documentation on what this widget is for. Other than out of curiosity, I’m not sure what you are supposed to do with it.
If you open the 3dConnexion item in System Settings on Mac, then choose the SketchUp configuration and Navigation tab, you will find it called “Rotation Center” and you can choose values “Hide”, “Always Show”, and “Show on Motion”. The meanings seem fairly obvious. There is also a checkbox for “Use Selected Item”, which places the rotation center at the center of the current SketchUp selection rather than at some other undocumented location.
Thank you. I don’t find the little cube annoying. I am now glad to know that I am not alone in finding it useless.
I have learned, from a SolidWorks forum, that it may be useful for SolidWorks and similar software. Apparently if you use the ctrl key and do something stuff happens.
Again, thank you all for your help in divining the cause of the little blue cube.
