i am David Kaufman. i am a clumsy woodworking hobbyist at age 76. i am an almost retired infectious disease physician.

i am having a problem with Sketch-Up 2024. the Left to Right select window is not selecting anything- advice please

dhkmd03145@gmail.com

thanks

dk

Left to right selection only selects entities that are 100% within the selection window!

So (example) you may think that you select the visible entities on screen. But they may be part of a group or component of which their bounderies stretch even further than your selection window. Thus nothing gets selected.

Show us your skp file to see what might go on.

p.s. Such questions deserve their own new thread to keep this one for what it has been put up here. And others can find specific Q/A easier later.

Hello, I am Mike, a retired Air Traffic Controller, Helicopter Pilot, Airplane Pilot, Drone Pilot and teacher, and Information Tech Specialist. Woodworking is my hobby. SketchUp is integral in visualizing and building my projects. I consider my SketchUp skills as begginer, the same with my Woodworking skills, I have been Woodworking since 1977 . My projects are done by using MacOS and IPad OS.

Hello,

My name is Paul. I am a retired General Contractor, timberframe enthusiast, and affordable housing non-profit volunteer among other things. I am new to sketchup and hope to use it to draw furniture projects and the like, and to communicate, receive and review drawings on a minka style timber frame I am planning and building on my property. I am test driving the go version now. I have a PC and and I Pad.

Rob Tweedie

Retired engineer, now drawing as a hobbyist.

Have used several drawing packages over the decades, the most recent being Solidworks.

I have got as far as studying the features and watching the first tutorial.

I am most impressed with the simplicity and easy use of the tools. Expect to be able to draw quickly

Hi all, I am Sil, a Dutch Sketchup user.

I used to be a Project Engineer and Site Supervisor for the design and installation of offshore foundations. Now moving towards sustainable home building, starting with the design of my own passive (tiny) house. Use Sketchup personally for now.

Not a drafsman by trade, so everything is new. Have basic knowledge of Autocad 2D and have been introduced to Inventor.

Use Sketchup for its 3D model capabilities and its large Warehouse, numerous extensions and community.

Never heard of the Sketchup 3DBasecamp…

Setup: Sketchup 2026 on a Asus Vivobook with Nvidea Geforce GTX 1650 with Max-Q design.

@Sil

Welcome Sil, always nice to see another Dutchie joining the forum.

I can recommend the official SketchUp tutorials: learn.sketchup.com

And offcourse the official SketchUp YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@SketchUpTeam

look for the “square one” playlist in the playlist section. It’s the one for beginers. After that you can do “level up” and “skill builder”

this is one of the fastest ways to get familiar with SketchUp.

If you have specific question about something, don’t hesitate to ask, just make a new thread..

Happy SketchUpping!

Who are you? I’m James. I’m part of the team behind runchat.com. We’re developers and designers passionate about bridging the gap between generative AI and professional CAD workflows.

What is your industry and profession? AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) Tech & Software Development.

Where do you use SketchUp? Personally/professionally? Professionally. We work with SketchUp to develop, test, and refine our plugin, ensuring it feels native for creative user’s needs.

Why do you use SketchUp and what is your favorite thing about it? We use SketchUp because it is the universal language of 3D design. It’s intuitive, fast, and accessible. It’s the first CAD we learned. Our favourite thing is the Ruby API and the Extension ecosystem; it’s incredible how the software allows developers to build powerful custom tools that supercharge the user experience.

How proficient are you in SketchUp? Beginner, intermediate, advanced? Advanced (especially when it comes to the API and developer tools!).

What is your current set up? We run on recent Mac ARM hardware and powerful spec windows machines with NVIDIA cards.

Do you have a 3D Warehouse page with your models, Extensions, or a website you would like to link to or show off to us? The Runchat Plugin is on the Extension Warehouse here. And you can see what it can do on our YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/JHSsbpfZXXA?si=OKHuY1QOOks7fE2H

Anything else you would like to tell us? Our goal is to let users generate assets, renders, and animations without ever leaving the SketchUp viewport. We’re keen for feedback, so if you try the plugin, let us know what you think!

What is your favorite Emoji?

Retired from USFS, completely new to any CAD programs. Spent a lot of time making project maps in ARC GIS for Feds. Been woodworking for decades, I want to learn how to draw projects in pursuit of that. Trying to move beyond creating things based on scratching on a scrap of paper, or wood.
Slow start, can’t get Fundamentals to load in Sketchup Pro 2026 on laptop.
