hi,my name is Francis
, i am using sketchup on my intel graphic but doesnt want to open on my laptop
Hello My name is Bob and I broke the big 70 barrier this year. I am a retired veteran woodworker. I used Sketchup 2017 to help me work through my PTSD. My laptop quit and had to replace it. Looked for the Sketchup 2017 download but cannot find it anywhere. I really hope I can find it it helps me to get through my day to day life. I have used it since it was released and it has helped to survive day to day life. All my projects are in 2017 on a flash drive. I do not like the web version. Budget is limited so buying a version is just not something that is a possibility. Hope to keep learning as the prgram in general is awesome.
Welcome Bob. SketchUp 2017 Make hasn’t been supported for years and there is no official source. If you do a Google search you can probably find a download source although you will want to be cautious. You might end up with some additional files you don’t expect or want. (Malware or possibly worse.) Also keep in mind that for a long time Windows hasn’t supplied security updates for the web broswer embedded in SketchUp 2017. The 3D Warehouse and Extension Warehouse haven’t supported SketchUp 2017 for a long time either although you can get components and extensions from those sources via your web browser. These days with ancient software it’s very much a user beware sort of thing.
I appreciate your input but this old dog has found what I want and have enough security to break just about any malware. Thanks for your time

Hi John,
What projects do you have going? I am a fellow plastic model addict who has realized that I no longer have the space (or money) to devote to building physical models, so I’ve also turned to 3D. I would love to see what you’re doing.
Hi @JohnRoss ,
I don’t want to discourage you at all, but this topic is just meant for introducing oneself.
Seeing your awesome models I would like to invite you to open a new topic in the gallery section of the forum where you can showcase your work.
Welcome to the forum and keep up the good work!
P.S. You can always answer people privatly if you feel that’s more appropriate. Just click on their avatar (in my case the green circle with a T in it…) and then click on message. It might be that you won’t be able to do so untill you have posted a few messages, for security reasons.

Why do you use SketchUp and what is your favorite thing about it? I originally started building models to 2D print and trace for pen and ink artwork, and the models have taken on their own purpose. I love how easy the SketchUp interface is. I’ve poked at Blender; it’s obviously very powerful, but also a bit intimidating.

Hi there, Jenepher from Ottawa, Canada. Newbie but have taken a few Sketchup courses. I’m a designer and am trying to produce kitchen designs and space plans. I know I need to group things in order to avoid problems later but I am still not sure what to group and when. Arg!
My name is Sutton O’Neal. I’m a retired software engineer, now doing serious woodworking (fine furniture) and using Sketchup for that. Sketchup is now of tremendous importance to my work, and, as an extra bonus, I really love working with it. I do serious plans for my woodworking, but compared to the work you modeling guys do, I am an enthusiastic beginner in Sketchup. Have been using SU for about 3-4 years now, thanks to all of you for your guidance and assistance.
Hi, I’m Jeff. I started using SU over a year ago.
I was a manufactures rep but recently went into semi-retirement and am more of a Admin Assistant and do most of the marketing as well.
I have created numerous models of the products we represent using SU.
I’d say that I am an intermediate user but I really dont have anyone to compare myself to.
I have not been to SketchUp 3DBasecamp.
I am currently running Sketchup Pro on a HP laptop but now that I want to begin rendering I am looking to upgrade. The lack of a graphics card and limited space causes some issues that I’ve learned to live with for now.
I have uploaded a few models to the warehouse but am not ready for prime time yet.
1 Question
How can I move the control panel that animation uses? It always pops up dead center.

Hello everyone,
Ashton here from Montrose CO
I am a (simi retired) landscape designer/project manager which I have done for 45 years.
I use Sketch Up to turn my 24 designs into 3-D models so that my clients can understand my designs easier. It also helps me to get a better feel for height and texture contrasts in my designs.
I would say that I am moving into intermediate in SketchUp. Would be further along if I would slow down and watch tutorials instead of just pushing buttons.
Currently I have a MSI laptop loaded with Windows 11, FX Cad 2023, SketchUp 2024 pro, and Lumion 11.1 rendering program.
I do not have a web page currently.
My favorite Emoji is the laughing while crying dude, but my grandson thinks that they are lame.
I used to love scuba diving at Catalina Island and riding my dirt bike but I now live in Colorado, however am restoring a 1970 VW Bus.
Hi All,
I am a landscape designer who has been using Sketchup for about 3 years. My boss at my last job showed me how he does his 2D work in it. Before I was using Vectorworks. Since so few people use it in my field, I’ve decided to do everything in Sketchup. I would say that I am an intermediate level user and I know I am not taking advantage of all the features that I should. I am looking forward to improving my workflow and perhaps learning to do quick plans without even using Layout, because my job is high quantity and extremely fast paced. If there are others on here using Sketchup for landscape design, I would love it if you could point me to resources for tips and tricks. I will poke around on my own and hopefully find some helpful tutorials.

Yay!!! Thank you!
Good morning,
I’ve ever used 3D modeling software for work and persona projects.
I started recently using sketchup web since I found this software very versatile and user friendly.
I hope to learn very much from you all and to help other forum users to get rid of their issues.
Greetings to all.
