Weird objects appearing in render, but not visible in SketchUp

Random objects seem to be appearing in the vray render (both interactive and render function) but are not visible in the sketchup model. After some digging, I have found that when I toggle on and off some of the lights (e.g. spot lights, sphere), the objects seem to change size and shape. I have also noticed some of my vray chaos cosmos models (such as trees) are not appearing in the render. The objects/geometry are very random and not something I have created myself. Has this happened to anyone else? I am lost for what to do next!

I have tried force quitting the app, saving it as a new document and restarting my computer and nothing seems to be helping. I have also tried reopening the document through my linked layout file to see if this had any difference. I have been working on this model for a few weeks and produced lots of renders already with no issues, so it is not a new model either. I have been using vray for a few months and i have not had this issue before until today. I am using a Mac Studio M2 Max chip.

Thanks!

EDIT 05.03.2025
I have since downgraded to V-Ray 6 and redone the V-ray Assets and the problem seems to have gone away. I have also spoke to Chaos Support and they are also investigating the issue.

Have you checked if you have hidden objects? Go to see, and click on hidden objects.

Ive tried hidden objects, and I have also gone through all of my tags to see if there was anything hiding and nothing seems to be working. The shapes seem to appear and change every time I turn on or off a vray light. I have turned off all the lights except the sunlight and the objects change shape and size, but are still there. The shapes are also appearing in places I haven’t placed lights as well.

Can you share the model? What happens if you revert all your V-Ray settings to default ?

Hi, please try this. Thank you!

I tried resetting the vray settings and nothing changed. The problem still seems to occur when switching the vray lights on and off. Some chaos cosmos models are also not rendering at all.

ok, let’s start by that. a purge.

go to window / model info / statistics / purge.

your file lost 200mb of unused stuff. I’m not saying it’s directly related to your issue, I’m saying a massive file carrying deadweight doesn’t help.

I tried to purge my document yesterday evening - the app became unresponsive. I left it overnight and came back to sketch still not responding. Ill try it again now

okay so I have purged the model and got rid of about 200mb (which worked this time without crashing) and the problem is still there hmm…

Which version of V-Ray are you using? I’m on a mac and held off upgrading to version 7 as there were some bugs. Try disabling your V-Ray objects in groups, ie lights, proxies, etc to see if you can find the culprit.

Unfortunately if you downgrade to v6 you’ll be forced to purge your model and re-do all the V-Ray settings.

As you can see, after I had to purge, it rendered fine.

So there might be a difference in PC vs Mac. I turned on all your lights and rendered this scene in V-Ray 7.00.01 using GPU rendering and got this:

The only oddities I see is the glossiness of the ceiling and some walls and some of the entourage is mysteriously missing (ok-the latter should have been relinked to Chaos).
Purging the file caused Crash #703381

Eric’s render is without the ceiling, that’s why it’s brighter and without the gloss material on it.

I am on 7.00.01 as I downloaded V-Ray only in December

I have also tried another model to see if it is just this file, and it also seems to be having issues. It all looks fine on the render interactive, but as soon as I hit render something strange happens.
