Web version command

My version of Sketchup Mobile 2023 is constantly failing. How do I stop this continual ripoff from happening repeatedly, which it has already, about 20 times in the last month or so? Hate to spend money on a useless product

First, be specific. What do you mean by ā€œconstantly failā€?

What graphics card in your computer? Complete your forum profile.

What web browser are you using?

Share the .skp file that is having problems so we can see what you are working with.

Are you using on an iPad? If yes, there was an update a couple days ago to fix some bugs.

not sure where to find the .skp file, Iā€™m a bit of a technophobe

Laptop

Open the model file and download it to your computer. Then upload it here by dragging and dropping the .skp file into a reply. Or, if itā€™s larger than 16 Mb, upload it to Google Drive or DropBox and share the link.

When using the program, it shuts down unexpectedly and the screen says something like ā€œ'we are working to correct this problemā€

Iā€™ve got your file opened in SketchUp Go on Chrome and Iā€™m not having any difficulty with it but itā€™s a little slow. I also have it open in SketchUp Pro. Iā€™m sure it doesnā€™t help that youā€™ve got your model spread out over a large area.

Generally itā€™s better to keep your model compact.

Thereā€™s some unused components and materials to purge.

See if this purged version works better but also move the objects close together.

thanks, Iā€™ll give it a try. Is the online version easily taxed? Should I just open another file when this sort of thing happens?

More easily than the desktop version but your model isnā€™t especially heavy in terms of edges and faces or materials which are usually the things that contribute to performance issues. Your internet connection speed is more likely to be a problem in the case of this model. Possibly also overloaded internet caches or the graphics card if itā€™s not partularly well-suited to 3D modeling.

I donā€™t know if opening another file is going to help. I presume you are experimenting with different design ideas? Maybe make them in separate SketchUp files.

I havenā€™t personally seen the message you indicate when Iā€™ve been working in SketchUp even with larger files than yours.

Thanks for your help. Also, How do I get the desktop version? I used Sketchup 6 or 7 years ago, when CDs were not so uncommon. I miss the classic interface controls

You can upgrade to SketchUp Pro at sketchup.com. Download it at sketchup.com/download/all

If you upgrade to Pro you would still have SketchUp Go, too.

Looking at your designs Iā€™m guessing you would also find some extensions useful.

OK, another problem as I get used to the Web version of Sketchup. I accidentally saved over a Model file. Is there anyway to recover this model?

You should be able to go into connect.trimble.com and sign in to your account. Then go to the file and tick its checkbox. On the right side you should find the history. I would open the file you want and immediately use Save as to save it with a different name.

Sorry to keep bugging you, but this interface is a bit frustrating. I get to ā€˜historyā€™, click on the file I want to open, and it doesnā€™t open like a normal file. Just a view of the whole model, similar to the image you sent me previously.

Download the historical version to your computer and then use Open>From DEvice in SketchUp Go.

Where would the ā€œOpenā€ command be?

Or click on the hamburger menu in the top right corner and then Open ā€¦

Thanks, Iā€™m praying that I donā€™t have to bug you any more, at least for today. Unlikely, but that is my intent
