Web Shop Version crashing

This week my Sketch Up Shop has crashed four times. I appears to happen when I am editing a component. Everything will freeze up. When I try to save my work, it just says that it is saving indefinitely. All I can do is go to home and lose my work.
It has happened twice today. Please fix it soon.

Without seeing the skp, I don’t think anybody can help you. Can you attach it?

I had updated the firmware on my NVIDIA GeForce video card earlier in the week. This morning I found a new Dell BIOS so updated that. I’m hoping that corrects the problem.

Please share your skp file and write down the bug reproduction steps so we can try on our side.

The problem may have been due to an update to my NVidia GeForce RTX 2060 Super video card. A few days later, Dell issued a BIOS update which I installed. I have not experienced any crashes since then.
I will enclose my .skp file in case it is any help to you.

Today I experienced another crash.
I noticed that at first the guide lines all disappeared.
I received an error message like “an error has occurred in SketchUp”.
I am unable to save the model in progress. I get a “Sketchup has encountered an error while saving this model” with an OK button.
I was unable to download the model at that time. Again an error message: “An error occurred while downloading the model” with an OK button.
I restarted my computer and ran a diagnostic with no problems reported.
I was able to use SketchUp and reopen my model. Here it is as I left it:

Would you mind confirming your operating system and browser? The crash should have automatically been reported to our system but I cannot find any reports associated with your account, which makes it difficult to guess what might be causing the crash. Some browsers may block the error reports from going through.

Thank you for responding.
I am using Windows 11 Home. It is version 23H2.
My browser is Microsoft Edge. It is the most recent.
I tried using Firefox on recommendation but found that Edge works better in my situation.
SketchUp just crashed again on me.
I saw that it wasn’t just the guides disappearing, but all the lines in the model leaving it with a rendered look.
My cursor moves easily but I cannot move the SketchUp model using Orbit, etc.

Microsoft Edge should be fine, but these kinds of crashes tend to be very dependent on the specific environment. In order to give us more help in diagnosing you can do the following.

  • Try using another browser such as Chrome or Firefox.
  • Take a screenshot of any error messages and upload them here.
  • When the model crashes, try using the sidebar menus (styles, scenes, etc) until you get a crash reporting dialog.

While they are often due to software glitches, keep in mind that these kinds of crashes can happen when something is wrong with your hardware too. Bad memory or overheated processors may trigger problems only when running somewhat intensive software like SketchUp. If you do not often use other heavy programs, it might be worth trying some hardware diagnostics.

It seems to be getting worse.
I must have accidentally brought up the new Search Function. SketchUp backed up 10 steps and lost a new part that I was about to designate as a component.
I was able to rebuild that part and make it a component, but SketchUp froze when I went to paint it.
I will be extremely disappointed if it’s a hardware issue. I spent a lot of money on memory and graphics for this barely 2-year old computer.
I run the Dell diagnostics at least every week.

Another crash. This time on Firefox.
All the functions on the toolbar change the cursor.
I tried to download a .png of the screen but it went black.
The model was all black when I returned to it.
I closed SketchUp and returned to it.
The model was still black.

Can you clarify what you mean by “closed SketchUp and returned to it”? Do you mean you closed the browser tab and opened SketchUp in a new one? Are you using the progressive web app feature to install SketchUp for Web? Is the model still rendering as black today?

As I mentioned if you could get screenshots it might help. Also navigating the right-hand panels to see if any other errors arise might help clarify the problem.

Yes, I closed the tab and reopened SketchUp in a new one. It was initially black upon immediately reopening, but recovered after I was away for 5 minutes.
Today, I was using SketchUp with MS Edge again.
I got a crash while editing a component (quite common to see) and I finally got an error message that said out of memory.
I’m not sure how my C:/ drive was 233 GB free on it.

Opening in a new tab should almost entirely reset SketchUp so unfortunately the fact that problematic behavior continues into a new tab suggests that something might be wrong with your system. The “out of memory” error refers to RAM (random-access memory) rather than hard disk memory. A good start would be running Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool.

To be clear, there’s still some possibility that you’re the victim of a very nuanced software bug that manifests with your specific hardware, drivers, and SketchUp. Statistically, it’s unlikely, but it could be. Unfortunately the answer is the same either way. Since such a bug is nearly impossible to isolate, you’ll probably have to make changes to your system in order to get SketchUp working reliably.

It just crashed again while using Firefox. I was editing a component, and I went to close a face using the pen tool. It was immediate. I had been using SketchUp for an hour and a half.
The good news is that it finally generated a crash report.
I tried to save my work but it is just stuck in indefinite save mode.

One thing I have found is that the Save interval had changed from my previous 5 minutes to 15 minutes.

SketchUp has been running weird all day.
I get a lot of “Trimble Connect is experiencing problems, please save your work.” messages.
When I go to save it, I get an error message saying that a version newer than the model I’m working on already exists, and would I like to save it or overwrite it. What can I do?
At least it hasn’t crashed.

I finally got an error report a few crashes ago. Have you looked at it?

Thanks, I do see the crash report. I’ll try again to reproduce it from the details in the report. Whenever you get a “version newer than the model” message the best thing to do is check the model history (available from the home screen). If the app crashes right after an upload you might find your lost work in the latest revision. SketchUp keeps a cache of the latest but that can become outdated if there’s a crash.
