So I don’t use layout much and maybe just user error, but when I insert a model, it shows up as a raster. I want to use vector. single click and double click don’t do anything fyi. And as soon as I hit render the viewport disappears. If I press ctrl A the model will be selected but it’s just the blue border. Otherwise I can’t select by clicking. When I click render, it says it has rendered. My scene is showing in the model info panel. Any help would be amazing.
Share the LayOut file so we can see what you are working with and help you identify the problem.
Are you using SketchUp/LayOut 2026? Are you still using Mac OS Ventura and the Radeon graphics card listed in your forum profile?
Yes I’m using Sketchup/Layout 2026. I’m on pc now. I’ve updated my profile. Ok, here’s a link. Really appreciate the help!
Thanks for updating your profile.
The scenes in your SketchUp model are set up so they don’t save the Camera position. At some point you must have saved the file in a way that set the camera so it wouldn’t see the plan in your scene. None of the scenes in your model save the Camera Position.
Your scenes need to be saving the Camera position in order for things to work smoothly in LayOut. I fixed this in Scene 14 in your model. I also turned off the Section Plane display and then updated the scene. Then updated the reference and see this:
You would still need to set the scale appropriately.
By the way, you should make sure you are using tags correctly. ALL edges and faces should be untagged. Only groups and components should be given tags. Also purge unused stuff to get rid of file bloat. Here I’ve fixed incorrect tag usage and then purged unused stuff from the SketchUp file.
This reduced the SketchUp file size by 30%. More could be done to slim the file down which would improve performance.
Ah that’s it! The camera. I need to learn how to use layout better, I just don’t use/need it very much. I turn the camera off because I find it annoying when switching scenes. I don’t want the camera location to change. And yeah I’m aware of edges and lines supposed to be untagged. I’m usually quite picky on stray geometry. Perhaps from something I downloaded from the warehouse. Anyway, thanks a bunch! I spent half a day with AI and google and got nowhere. I’ll ask for help here more.![]()
You do really need to have Camera postions saved in scenes, specially if you are going to LayOut. If you don’t you’re going to wind up with all sorts of problems and extra work.
You need to understand SketchUp better in order to make proper use of LayOut.
Set up scenes for working (camera and maybe other things do not change), and setup scenes for documentation (LayOut) where what you want to see in LO is what you see in SKP.
If you are smart about this you will eventually build this into a template in SKP so it’s ready to go when you start and you will eventually have a template in LO that is keyed to you SKP template…
