I have previously been able to place a viewport over another with the backgrounds being transparent, and am aware the model style background needs to be unchecked, and the scene style sky and ground need to be unchecked. Can’t get the background to be transparent and have read several topic related posts. Please advise.
Is there a large plane or box in the background? Without seeing any visuals or models its hard to say what the issue might be. Note LO under SU Viewport Style also has an override for backgrounds. Make sure that is set correctly.
Are you still using SketchUp/LayOut 2022?
Can you share the LayOut file so we can see what you are working with?
I’m using SU and LO 2024
Here are the SU and LO files
Something seems corrupt with the viewports that keep showing the background.
I noticed the perspectives do not show the background, so if I copy one of those and set it to the scene to “DECK-FRM-FRM-P-1” all seems good.
Why this is happening, I have no idea, but hopefully the work-around helps.
Please update your forum profile.
Like @ArchyVR I think there’s something corrupted with those viewports in your LayOut file. Sending the SketchUp file to a new LayOut file, I don’t get the background displayed at all.
I wonder if @adam might take a look and recognize an issue.
FWIW, I fixed your LO file by replacing the viewports with new ones. For this screenshot I set the paper to green to confirm the backgrounds were gone. I reset the paper color in the LO file.
I’ll send the LO file via a PM since it contains client information.
Still not sure why those viewports showed the background, though.
FWIW, this LO file is referencing your model on my computer. In order to make it look at your computer you can either relink the reference in Document Setup>References or you can right click on one of the viewports, choose Open with SketchUp and then from SketchUp use Save as to replace your copy of the model with mine. Then relink to it. I did purge unused content (mostly styles) from your SketchUp file and I fixed incorrect tag usage.
Also check that the viewports are all on the appropriate layers. I expect that Xray view should be on Viewport 2 and aligned with the other viewport.
FWIW, all of those viewports could be created using a single scene in SketchUp. With tag visibility control and style selection in LayOut, you wouldn’t need so many scenes in your model.

This works. Thanks for your help and advice on setting up viewports.
Did you get my PM with the revised file? I sent it privately because it contains client information.
I did receive the file, and have now deleted my uploads from the forum. Thanks for your help and security concerns.
I have discovered what was causing my viewports to display a background even when the style background is unchecked. Simple, but I did not think to check if a fill could be applied to a viewport. It can, and if the viewport is selected and the Shape Style Fill button is toggled on, it will create a background and override the background off check box selection.
This leads me to a user interface request. I think some of the tool attribute options such as line and color are confusing and hard to see whether they are on or off. I had more trouble with this when first starting out with Layout but am now understanding how it works. Not sure how this would be accomplished, but improvements would definitely help new users. Thanks.
Are you referring to Fill and Stroke in Shape Style? This is what I see inShape Style with a viewport selected.
No fill or stroke:
With Fill and Stroke turned on and the option to set the color active for Fill.
I now understand how it works. Thanks for your help.
