Using the Scale Tool (in Layout)

Sorry, I have to ask this absolutely basic question because I can’t find any explanation on it:

How to use the scale tool in Layout? I have an object (from a scrapbook). None of the usage hints (bottom bar) works. Object not selected: “Hover over an item to select it.” Doesn’t work. I select it using the select tool. Now it says: “Click or click-drag a scale grip to begin scaling. Drag the crosshairs to start a two-point scale … ” The item doesn’t react to anything I do with the scale tool, no crosshairs ever appear. Is the installation broken?

Thanks!

What is the scrapbook item?

Hello Dave

it’s a door.

Could you be specific so I can find the thing in the Scarbook?

Sorry, of course. I hadn’t understood that it matters in detail. It’s this one:

(And I tried various out of this particular scrapbook.)

And since you think it matters, I’ll try out other items in the meantime.

The door swings are scaled drawings. Select the thing and set its scale in the Scaled Drawing panel. Or right click on it and select the desired scale.

Yes, I saw that, but none fits. I didn’t realise they can only be scaled that way. Is there a way to detach them from this and treat them as a regular item to be scaled at will?

What scale do you need it to fit? You can create any scale you want.

Right under Scale in the right click menu. See my screenshot.

Right click should give you that option.

It does in fact—via ungrouping. Surprising, but real. Thanks!!!

There’s no need to ungroup it, though. Just do what Mike and I told you.

Right click, bottom of list.

Oh, yes, great, I hadn’t seen that one. Much better, thanks so much for pointing that out!
