Urgent Help Needed – Corrupted SKP File After Power Failure (135MB)

Hello everyone,

I urgently need help recovering an important SketchUp project.

I was working in SketchUp 2023 when a sudden power cut happened during saving. After restarting, both the .SKP and .SKB files became unreadable.

Current issues:

  • “Failed to open document”

  • “This does not appear to be a SketchUp model”

  • SketchUp Web also cannot open it

File details:

  • SketchUp version: 2023

  • File size: around 130 MB

  • Both .SKP and .SKB files exist

I already tried:

  • Renaming .SKB to .SKP

  • Opening in SketchUp Web

  • Import method

  • Autosave/temp recovery

  • Different SketchUp versions

Nothing worked so far.

I have attached/shared the files below. If anyone can help recover the model or extract geometry from the damaged file, I would really appreciate it. This is an important client project.

Thank you.

Try updating to 2026 and see if it opens. You can keep 2023 installed if you want, but note that it is end of life and Trimble does not offer support for it.

Also fix your forum profile. It makes no sense.

Unless of course you are using a pie rated and Cracker Jack version.

Both files are missing too much data to be recoverable. You’ll have to start over.

First get a legal subscription to SketchUp and update to the current version. Make sure you save to the internal drive on your computer and save backups to Trimble Connect periodically.

Fix your forum profile. Nonsense there makes it more difficult for you to get help.
