File won’t open after sudden shutdown - “This does not appear to be a SketchUp model”

I was working on an important SketchUp 2024 project for my thesis when my laptop suddenly shut down (power cut on battery failure). After I rebooted, I tried opening the .skp file and got this message:

“This does not appear to be a SketchUp model.”

I had saved the file earlier that day, and the file still has a size of 23,5 MB, so it isn’t completely empty. However, neither the desktop version nor the web version can open it.

I tried renaming the .skb file extension to .skp, but no luck — still won’t open. That one gave me:

“Failed to open document.”

I also tried loading it through SketchUp Web, same error.

Is there any way to repair or recover the corrupted .skp file?

Here’s my SketchUp file (Google Drive Link):

Any help would be truly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance!

Sorry for the issues, sounds like you have tried the recommended options. One more step I have used in the past I didn’t see you list, start a new file, then try to import the failed file. Not sure if it will help, but worth a try.

No. It isn’t completely empty. It is, however 22.3 Mb of nothing but zeroes. Not even the expected SketchUp header. There is absolutely nothing to recover in the file you shared.

Mark’s suggestion can work in some cases but not this time, unfortunately.

What version of SketchUp are you really using? Your forum profile says “SketchUp for Schools” which is a web based version for young school children. Is it actually a cr acked version you are using?

Where have you been saving the file while you were working on it?
