A SketchUp model

I have a sketchup file that cannot be opened and the message “This does not appear to be a SketchUp model!” appears. Can you help me to repair the file so it can open?

The file is about totally empty, there is nothing to recover.
Do you have the backup (.skb) file? You could try renaming its extension to .skp and try to open it.

but why in the file properties the size is 29.2 mb. there is a skb file, I have done it by changing it to skp. but still the same can’t open :frowning:

sir is there any other way that i can recover my files?

it’s not filled with one zero. it’s filled with million of them

it’s like a book, if you take the lord of the ring and replace all the letters by a 0 then you’ll end up with a book as long and heavy, yet filled with zeroes.

if you didn’t make a copy somewhere, or you didn’t use trimble connect or a backup service… no

Thank you very much sir for your answer and attention. I really appreciate it. If you would, may I know how to find out if my file contains zeros?

I don’t have the backup file. only have the skb file but it still can’t be opened even though it has been replaced with skp

you open the file in a plain text editor.

I use sublime text, it’s free. a normal sketchup file shouldn’t have massive parts filled with zeroes.

as Anssi said, it’s empty. 1 917 033 lines of that.

the skb is the standard backup file. I’m talking personal backup, maybe you use a solution in case you loose your data… but apparently not.

Then it’s back to step 0 I guess.

Wow. It looks like it’s badly damaged, thank you sir for your help & explanation.

Where have you been saving the file while you were working on it?

What version of SketchUp are you using? Your profile says “Free Plan” 2024. There is no free version of SketchUp 2024.

I saved it on SSD then I moved it to hard disk. because SSD had a problem and was formatted. before formatting I moved it to hard disk in a state where it could not be opened. the reason was when I was working on the laptop it experienced a bluescreen and my files suddenly could not be opened. I use the free version because I don’t have enough money to buy the paid version

This is most likely the cause of the file corruption.

As I wrote, there is no free version of SketchUp for Desktop. The free web version does not create .skb backup files. So you are using a cracked version of SketchUp?

I wonder if the SSD is one of these fakes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOhLlvNlI20
