Corrupted file after power cut - "Not a SketchUp model" (15MB)

Hello,

My computer crashed due to a power outage while I was working. Now, I cannot open my file anymore.

  • Error 1: When opening the .skp, it says: “This does not appear to be a SketchUp model.”

  • Error 2: When opening the .skb, it says: “Can’t open duplicate file” or fails to open.

  • File size: 15.4 MB (The data seems to be there, but the header is likely broken).

What I’ve already tried:

  1. Renaming .skb to .skp.

  2. Trying to import the file into a new blank SketchUp document and Layout (failed).

  3. Renaming to .zip

Could someone please help me recover the geometry? Here is the link to the file: https://we.tl/t-yCiSV7lMr5

Thank you very much for your help!

(SketchUp 2025)

The .skp file contains nothing but zeroes. The .skb file is more than 50% zeroes. Nothing to recover from either file.

Your profile says you have a SketchUp Go subscription. That version doesn’t provide access to SketchUp 2025 for Desktop. Is it actually a cr acked license you are using? That may have something to do with the issue. Where have you been saving the file while working on it?

Thank you DaveR for taking the time to check the files. It is a shame they are unrecoverable, but I appreciate your expertise. I was saving my file on my local hard drive. Thank you again for the diagnostic

The power cut likely came at a bad time. Do they ever come at a good time?

Question, why aren’t you saving backups to Trimble Connect? If you have a current subscription you have unlimited storage there. You should save both locally and to Trimble Connect.

BTW, please correct your forum profile if you are using SketchUp for Desktop.
