I messed around with the grouping option and now different things are in different groups and when i need to add material everything in that group turns that materal, and i dont want that. How do i ungroup so everything is its own component.
Right click on the group and choose Explode from the Context menu.
When you apply materials, though, you should be opening groups and components and drilling in all the way to the faces and edges. Then apply the materials to the faces.
Depending on what you are trying to accomplish, it may not make sense to explode the groups and components in your model.
By the way, which version of SketchUp are you really using? Your profile says 2020 but there is no SketchUp 2020, at least yet.
