Open the Components panel, drag your components in to the model space, and place them as needed. The groups and any loose geometry you might have had in the file will need to be recreated the way you created them the first time.
Colin, hi! Can you please try to recover my file, lost 7 hours of work in it, on a deadline. I tried changing the extension, but is still unexpected file format.

I missed your post. As with most cases I only recovered components and materials, and nothing will appear in the scene. The recovered file is almost as big as the original file, which should mean there are some components in the In Model set that contain large chunks of the missing scene. Hopefully you will know which of the components are the bigger ones, and can drag those into the scene.

Hi, I’ve just had the same 'unexpected file format problem trying to open one of my Sketchup models. I see lots of other people have had the same problem -
was anyone able to sort it out?
Generally speaking, no. We still haven’t found steps to cause a file to be unreadable. Support tell us that a high percentage of corrupted files were ones being saved to a remote server or file sharing system, but even when we try doing that, files don’t get corrupted.

I could only recover the components, the scene will be empty. Look in the Components tray to see if there are any components you can use.

In order for Colin (or anyone else) to help, you need to share your SketchUp SKP file. Add it here to a new reply if the file is about 15MB or smaller. Otherwise, upload it to a file-sharing site such as DropBox or WeTransfer, make the permissions for the file public, and post a link to the file in a new reply.

Here is the link of the file. Unfortunately I’ve already replaced the .skb file:( with .skp
I tried both files, and could only recover some components and materials. Look in the Components and Materials trays to see if there is anything useful.
