Unable to save file bug

Hello all,

I have a very annoying problem on sketchup for education online: there isn’t any possibility to save my file that I’ve been working on. It says it’s in the middle of saving, but that’s been for the last 10 minutes and it’s not a heavy file, and in the meantime all the saving are options are grayed out.
And trying to download the file in any kind of format doesn’t make anything download. I’ve also tried opening a new window hoping for the “restore your file” option, but nope.
Shame that I can’t copy paste all the geometry to a new window. Anyway now I’m very stuck, any suggestions?

Thanks a lot!

It’s hard to tell exactly what version you are using. Is it the web based SketchUp for Schools which is for school children?

Yep, exactly.

You can’t copy the geometry to another window, but you should be able to copy, start a new model in the same window, and paste.

Oh ok, sounds good! I’ll probably test it first just to be sure cause if it fails I’ll lose my model definitely.
Thanks for the solution! Will really save the day

Please put that in your forum profile.

As I understand it, SketchUp for Schools saves to a Google Drive location. @CaseyG could clarify that. In any case, do you have access to that location?

Yep, I’ve chosen onedrive as storage. But that onedrive saved file is a very old version, not at all the most recent.

Good news, I’d left my computer for an hour or so and when I came back, the file had downloaded. Apparently it just took ages to react when I had tried to download an skp, and finally downloaded it ages later.
Thanks anyway Colin, appreciated the quick and effective answer!

How large is the SketchUp model file?

300 kb

Really not what I’d call heavy enough to justify the download time

Certainly not huge at all. So I wonder what the bottleneck is between your computer and OneDrive.

A 300kb file should download very quickly. I am guessing that something got messed up with a setting somewhere on onedrive or that there was some sort of problem on their servers but I can’t be sure. Regardless, I am glad to hear that you got your file downloaded. If you are willing to share the file I would love to take a look and see if I also have difficulty downloading it.

As always, thank you to DaveR for replying to posts so quickly and thanks for using the @ command to get my attention.
