page one of my LO file is a drawer box in front elevation, side elevation and plan. those 3 take up the page. on the next page i want to represent a sheet of baltic birch plywood to make a cutting diagram. that is 5’,5’. i want that to take up most of the page so i selected scaled drawing. selected an appropriate scale and began drawing a square. i am only able to click and drag the square while watching the dimensions change in the dimensions window. i am unable to input 5’,5’ for an exactly sized shape
also, the dimension tool is not behaving in the same way as it does on my page 1
Share the LO file so we can see what you are working with.
What scale is that? On what size paper?
I just tried it in a new file and it works fine for me.
Looks like you drew the rectangle snapping to the grid. In the Arrange menu, turn off Grid Snap.
Make sure when you enter the dimensions you aren’t clicking in the Measurements window (same as in SketchUp) and type 5’,5’ with no spaces.
What do you mean the dimensions aren’t working the same on the second page as they did on the first?
Turned the snap to grid off. Drew a rectangle. Still can’t input dimensions. When I select any tool at the top it does not appear on my page.
Can you make a screen capture so we can see what you are seeing? Are you expecting that a rectangle will just appear on the page when you select the Rectangle tool?
i will continue later. never done a screen capture video but i found out how. thanks dave
Alright.
Why are you still using Xray in the style instead of the method I showed you?
Are these really the dimensions you want for the drawer box?
Do you need the redundant dimensions on the first page?
Looks like you’re clicking in the Measurements window before trying to enter the dimensions. I already mentioned that it’s just like in SketchUp. Your cursor doesn’t even need to get close to the Measurments window. There’s never any reason to click in that field.
Watch the video I posted and pay attention to where the cursor is.
I’m at work now, so I’m not in front of my diagram, but I will continue when I get home.

Regarding my layout drawings of the drawer. I’ve used a two dimensional drafting program for about 25 years. And when I finish my drawing, just like when you draft, I want three views only.
I wasn’t referring to the 3-view. I use 3-views when needed, too. That just makes sense. I was referring to using Xray to show the hidden details instead of showing them with dashes as you would in 2D drafting.
Like this, for example.
Yes. That is what I’m after however I didn’t understand your explanation of “stacked” viewports unfortunately. I feel bad asking question after question.
No need to feel bad asking questions. That’s what the forum is for. Take a look at the attached LO file. Notice I created layers for each level of viewport in the stack and an additional one for the dimensions. Turn off those various layers in the Layers panel to see what is on the other layers.
Office Cupboards and Bookshelves Drawer Box stacked VP.layout (100.3 KB)
Will do! Thanks.
Also. I swear that I’m using the rectangle tool and same was as in SU. Did you notice when I clicked a tool it didn’t appear in the viewport?
The cursor remained an arrow
That could be related to the graphics card in your computer.
No problem on page 1
Just scaled drawing
