im new to sketchup and vray.
I want to render this table but I’m unable to change the texture (i mean the woodgrain) horizontally if i apply it is very pixelated
1 i tried using a reference shape(box) and align horizontally and then using sample paint select the face of the box and paint on the curvy side(corners) of the table
2 using the uv tools of vray i didnt get what i want
what i want to learn
1 how in general a wood grain texture is applied on a surface of table top let say the table is around 1.8m long and 800 width
2 one of my friend said enscape is easier to apply material than vray.
thanks for the prompt reply. i already know how to manipulate texture using the 4 color pin. the other video projected texture is new and i learnt how to use it
with that set
im uploading few images here
i used projected texture
on a flat(top surf of the table) surf the projection is neat i can see the woodgrain clearly
the same flat surf (side surf of the table i see it is pixelated)
my question
1 is it that im more zooming in and looking into the woodgrain or what i didnt understand
2 as im using a decent resolution img to project (i mean do u recommend me to use a high res img)
3 i see that the image is bright in left and dark in the right. can you recommend me any tutorial in which i can balance the light in the image or is there any option inside vray by which i can change that
Without the model it’s harder to answer correctly, so I have to guess a byte.
about seeing pixelated material on the side. could it be that you had ‘show hidden geometry’ active while placing the material? since it seems like I can see multiple strips instead of one (curved) material?
(note, I don’t use v-ray or other ‘expensive’ rendering tools )
it depends on what you want to do with it and what rendering program you use, some might need higher resolution materials while others replace the texture with their own? Also it depends on whether you are going to render the ‘problematic’ corner in detail (the higher the resolution the better?) or will it be in the background (doesn’t necessarily need high resolution textures)?
Also the file size can be increased so much when using high resolution textures that modeling becomes harder/slower.
I’m not sure if it’s because of the shadow settings, or if the darker color is somehow embedded in the texture, or if this happens when placing a texture on a curved shape that consists of multiple faces. (turn of ‘show hidden lines’ before adding a teture to curved faces)
Hope someone can confirm or if needed can improve my answers …
PS if possible share the model so people can inspect the model to better understand the issues.
Will this play OK? The texture isn’t long enough to avoid repetition and it isn’t seamless. Real wood isn’t seamless either so that would be expected but I would expect the real thing would be made from pieces that are long enough to avoid most seams Table.skp (10.2 MB)
