Transfer Sketchup 2016 to a new Computer

Hi All:
I have a legal licensed version of Pro 2016. My computer is dying so I bought a new computer. Trying to move my Sketchup Pro 2016 to the new computer is not working. I have all sorts of old license text files and email receipts and stuff like that. I am told that I need to not just move the files, but I need to do a new full re-installation from the install ‘package’. Where can I get that? Thanks for help in advance.

Sketchup 2016 doesn’t run on android.

You are referring to my profile for platform type, I think? I did not know what to enter there. Both my old and my new computers are both Dell

It would be useful if you put the correct information in your forum profile. If you have a PC it’s some version of Windows.

There is no SketchUp Pro 2017 Make, either.

Also in the ‘what version are you using’; there was no choice in the profile selections for 2016; the earliest available selection choice was 2017. I’ll see if I can fix the platform type; now I understand, old was Windows 10; new is Windows 11. Thanks!

You might find a copy somewhere if you do an internet search but be careful it doesn’t come with something you don’t want. You download it at your own risk.

Keep in mind the internet browser it uses hasn’t had security updates from Windows for years and it may open your computer up to attack. Of course none of the web based services support that version anymore, either.

Thanks DaveR. (fixed my profile info). So there is nothing I can do except try to keep my old machine running? I am not opposed to paying the annual fee and upgrading, except the chatter on Reddit is that the newer versions of Sketchup are actually not as good (performance/capabilities) as the older versions.

Appreciate that. I will probably avoid any chance I might infect my new machine.

I wouldn’t go by chatter on Reddit. Check it out for yourself. SketchUp 2025 was just released. It’s very nice. There’s no way in the world I would go back to using SketchUp 2016 at this point.

Hmmm. OK. Good to know. Worried that if I checkout the new 2025 using the free version, it will automatically attack and erase my current old 2016 Pro version and erase my license and leave me with no choice? Do you know? Thanks again.

No. It won’t do that. Each version of SketchUp installs as a separate profram. Go to Sketchup.com and get the 2025 installer to try. There’s a 7-day trial period that includes the SketchUp Studio options. Try it out. Then decide if you need the additional features included with the Studio subscription or just want the Pro subscription.

Make sure you install SketchUp correctly. That requires right clicking on the installer and selecting Run as administrator.

Thanks so much DaveR. Really appreciate the time you took to help me out here. Have a great day and know that you really provided some good help.
