Tough time logging in to SketchUp

After several days of trying, I finally was able to log in and use SU 2026. The splash screen would open, I click on the sign in on splash screen, browser page opens id.trimble.com, page says “everything sketchup,” but there’s nothing to click on to sign in. Tried opening 2022, and same thing. Tried closing browser and opening again. Clicking “launch browser again” doesn’t accomplish anything. I have to say that Trimble was entirely non-responsive, making me feel angry for the cost of annual SketchUp renewal, with dismal support. I got two emails from them, one acknowledging the inquiry I sent, and the next saying the support case was updated to Closed. Wow. Turns out that I solved my problem by googling it. One person, similarly frustrated with not being able to get to work, was able to log in on his wife’s computer. He figured out that they had different virus programs, and he disabled the Malwarebytes extension in his browser, and the problem was solved. I tried the same thing, and likewise found success. I then got a helpful response from SU support, offering a number of things to try. They also cited MWB as a potential culprit, but why this problem should exist in the first place is beyond me. I have subscriptions to other programs, such as Vectorworks and Photoshop, and I don’t encounter the same inconvenience. I’ve never encountered this problem with SU before, but we recently moved and I had to set up my computer system again, but I can’t imagine that had anything to do with it. Not everybody has an IT department to solve their problems…

And what is the feature request?

let me guess, you have a VPN or a nasty anti virus, it’s pretty classic.

here often lies the solution yes.

yes, malwarebytes is a problem in itself, it has been for years, and really the best thing you could do is get rid of it. kill it with fire.

They use different solutions to check your subscription, one that malwarebytes doesn’t interfere with. For adobe it’s really simple, they install a malware themselves, called something like creative cloud or something, that will have access to your drive, and ping a server every 30 odd seconds. No idea about vectorworks.

indeed, and for those who don’t, google, this forum or reddit are invaluable sources.
Sketchup’s tech support as well, but you might have to wait a bit longer.

Here is my contribution : on a PC, if you keep it up to date, and you set up Windows Defender, you don’t need an extra antivirus.
Most antivirus, when you use them for free, are simply extra layers on top of the standard defender. Plus ads and popups.
And when you pay them, they’ll try to act super tough to justify the cost.

moved
