Toolbars not saving layout after updating to SketchUp 2024

Hi everyone, I recently updated to SketchUp 2024 and I’m having an issue with the toolbars.

I can arrange and dock them normally, but every time I open a new file or restart the program, all toolbars show up floating again, as if I never adjusted them. In Preferences > Workspace, I only see the option “Reset Workspace”, so I can’t manually save the layout. From what I understand, SketchUp 2024 should save it automatically when closing, but it doesn’t. I’ve already tried resetting the workspace and rearranging, but the problem persists.

I have the same issue.

usually, on PCs, this is caused by SU not having all the permissions it needs.

the simplest way to rule that out (or fix it) is to download the installer file, fight click on it, and run as admin.

from there you can repair your install, and then restart your machine.
it should give SU all the permissions it needs.

another cause could be a crash, or a silent crash. sketchup saves the interface when you do a clean quit. and when you start it, it’ll use the last “safe” interface it has.

so in cases where sketchup crashes, or does a silent crash (crash during quitting), it won’t save your interface.

I opened the program as administrator, adjusted the tools, closed the program and restarted my PC, this way it worked

Opening the program as administrator is NOT the same as correctly installing it by running the installer with Run as administrator.
