In SU 2024, when adding or removing toolbars and then quitting the application, the toolbar layout would normally be preserved the next time you launched it. However, now every time I quit and relaunch the app, most of the toolbars reappear—even after I’ve manually closed all of them.
Also, the Extension Manager doesn’t seem to retain changes: disabling extensions has no effect after restarting SketchUp—they’re still enabled.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there a workaround or known fix?
What you describe is typical of incorrect installation on Windows which results in Windows not granting permissions to write the required file defining the toolbar locations and so on.
Correct installation requires right clicking on the installer and selecting Run as administrator. Do that now and when presented with the options, choose Repair. After it completes do a cold reboot of the machine and open SketchUp again. Set up the toolbars, open a model file and save it. Then quit and restart SketchUp. If that doesn’t fix it there’s a more drastic step but try this first as it’s less invasive.
Your profile says you are using SketchUp 2025. Which version are you using?
Thanks for the help. I had installed SketchUp Pro 2025 using “Run as administrator.” I updated from within the 2024 version. When I started experiencing the issue, I uninstalled and reinstalled the program, thinking that might solve it—but I didn’t do a cold reboot at the time.
Anyway, I followed your instructions, but it seems I may need to take the more drastic step. I’ll try uninstalling both versions, deleting all related folders, and cleaning the registry to see if that helps.
So, it took me about 1 hour and 40 minutes to completely uninstall both versions of SketchUp using Settings > Apps > Installed apps. After that, I manually removed all remaining files and folders from my C: drive using a tool called Everything to locate them. I also ran Norton Utilities to clean up the registry entries.
Then, I launched SketchUp as administrator, did a first launch/quit/launch cycle, and noticed that the issue was gone. I reinstalled all my extensions and repeated the quit/launch in the process at least four times to ensure none of them were causing the problem.
Thanks again, Dave, for your quick response — it’s always great to have knowledgeable and helpful people around!
