Toolbar positions do not remain where placed in SU 2015.
I recently upgraded to 2015. I positioned the various toolbars for the basic program and for specific add ons in the precise locations where these had been located in prior versions of the program and it appeared to be successful. When opening the program again, after having closed out the earlier session and rebooting, the positions of all the add on toolbars reverted to where they were before initially placing them. (Those toolbars associated with the original SU software stay in the desired locations.) See attached screenshot to better understand my predicament.
I recall a number of complaints from other SketchUp users with a similar experience under SU 2013 and 2014, but this has not posed a problem in my setup until now. How can the toolbar locations for extensions be set to a fixed position? Does anyone have a reliable approach to resolve this?
I always forget to mention the system setup.
I’m running Windows 7 Ultimate on a 64 bit PC.
Nvidia Quadro 3000M graphics card, dual monitor display
Intel Core i5-2520 M CPU@ 2.50 GHz
Installed memory 16.0 GB
With SU2015 the toolbars should remain where you placed them, if they aren’t it suggests an issue of some sort in your system rather than specifically with Sketchup.
Are you using a network drive? That toolbar stacking usually happens when you disable the plugins folder then enable it again. So is it possible that your setup is looking for your plugins and at first not finding them, then the network connection is made and they all load at once.
SU8 could be a similar issue, but SU8 has the save and restore toolbar option that wasn’t available pre SU8 and not needed after SU8 if I remember correctly.
SU8 had known issues. Though it should have been fixed in SU2013 with the new toolbar system.
When you position your toolbars, do you dock them or leave them floating?
They should stay in position regardless, but I’m just trying to figure out the setup.
I typically dock toolbars unless it’s intended to be a one time use (infrequent). I have been experiencing a Load Error which I reported earlier and this has not been successfully resolved, so Jim Foltz has hit on the most likely culprit in the situation. Here is a link to my post on that subject:
I remain concerned about this issue despite the responses I recorded in the referenced post because I still have the load errors occurring each time I start SketchUp. I have not been able to apply the advice provided thus far to eliminate the Load Error problem. I guess that some consolation can be taken in the realization that the toolbar issue is related to this and hopefully both issues will be abated by the same solution.
Ah! Now that’s an interesting detail. Can you please post the load error here? (And when you do, mark it up as Pre Formatted Text - otherwise the forum mangles parts of the message.)
All the toolbars? I seen toolbars get detached when the extension that creates it cause a load error. But I don’t think I’ve seen all of them jump around like that.
Did you take the advice I gave you in the other thread and remove the old and install the new versions of the plugins that were causing you problems.
As I mentioned there, both Plugins had new releases to work with SU2015.
That sounds like you have issues loading binary parts of the extension. I’m assuming you installed 64bit SketchUp 2015?
In which case you need to check that the extension has been updated to be compatible with 64bit. If not you either need to remove it or install the 32bit version of SketchUp.
Your advice was spot on. I was reluctant to uninstall and then reinstall
the software and the add ons, but that ultimately resolved my load error
issue and the attendant misplaced toolbars. Thank you.
