"This model failed file integrity checks and cannot be opened"

Crash was out of nowhere, just when i download small file from Warehouse and that was the last part/detail just before preparing to save and render.
I didn’t write a bug report, because I know I have autosave, but that autosave when i open it says “This model failed file integrity checks and cannot be opened”
Worked on Sketchup 2024, tried to open in different version of Sketchup, importing file into new Sketchup model, check file extension and open .skb but its same, failed to open.
I guess that little file from the Warehouse caused my problem, but I can’t solve it, so please help me not to do the same thing again.
Thank you!

Which version of SketchUp 2024 are you using? It opened for me after trapping a bad object.

Update to SketchUp 2025 and you should be able to open it.

I notcie in your model incorrect tag usage.

Also a lot of hoarded unused components and materials.

Also some excessively large materials for what they add to your model.

After cleaning up your model the file is reduced by 67% and is much more manageable.

Upgrade to SketchUp 2025 and you should be able to work with your model again.

A note about downloading components from the 3D Warehouse: Don’t add components directly to your project. Download them into a separate SketchUp session. Check the components to make sure they are clean and usable. If you’re satisfied with the component after examinging it, copy it and paste it into your project file.

Amen to that brother.

I downloaded a very innocent looking fridge component recently and inserted it into my project model. It caused my SU file to crash a lot so I went hunting and found the little scallywag.

Inserted components are a good place to check when a file gives problems. If you’re in trouble, try Isolating all the components and test them in another file- Or just always check them first before use as Dave suggests.

When in doubt, ask Dave.

please can someone help me my file going “this model failed file integrity checks and cannot be opened” and this file so important because my client is waiting for this file. help me please…

It opens on sketchup 2025 and 2026, it gives you a warning saying that some errors have been detected but since sketchup 2024 the program automatically fix or delete elements of the file that don’t let it open on previous versions. If you update to sketchup 2024, 2025 or 2026 you’ll be able to open your file.

As usual with big files, you have a lot of components and materials that arent being used or are overkill for what they mean to be, that makes your file unnecessarily heavy, also a lot of faces and edges were assigned a tag, only groups and components must be tagged, having loose geometry tagged can generate a lot of issues if you want to hide them for a scene for example.

can u save that file to another version 2020 sketchup please, cause i want to try open it..please..

Just install the latest version from your SketchUp account, don´t forget to run the installer as administrator, it will even migrate all your plugins automatically, in 10 minutes you can have it installed and you’ll be able to open your file.

it’ll be wasting time waiting for install another version sketchup cause this client is waiting and needed this file asap..

You´re wasting time right now, also sketchup 2026 is more efficient and uses a faster graphics API that will open your file a lot faster than on your 2023 version. Also, sketchup 2024, 2025, and 2026 can´t save as 2020 files, you can open a file made on sketchup 2025 on sketchup 2021 and viceversa but 2021 is the last version that can open universal files so newer versions of sketchup cant save to older versions.

okey thank u, what causes error on that file? to many unused component or to many edges or faces

I don´t really know, Sketchup takes care of it automatically but it doesn’t gives a report of what was causing the issue. Beside that, your model is bloated with heavy models i guess you downloaded from the 3D warehouse and materials that probably are part of those models that are increasing the size of your file, and I could also bet that a lot of those models have loose geometry tagged and back faces exposed, if you use the monochrome style everything must look white, but you have a lot of blue faces, If you want to render in the future, back faces will look black despite the material you’ve applied to them.

I recommend you to download models from the 3D ware house into an empty file, not the main one if you don´t want to have this issue in the future, there are a lot of corrupted models that in some cases have corrupted the entire file without the possibility of recovering, assets don’t need to be extremely detailed and weight 32 mb. I also recommend you to take a look to this website https://learn.sketchup.com/ there are free courses made by SketchUp staff and official trainers that will teach you how to model in a proper and effective way.

This model failed file integrity checks.

Errors were detected when reading the component definition “Group#682”

can u fix that bro?

As has been mentioned, simply downloading and installing a newer version will allow you to open it yourself.

After running cleanup3 and material resizer the size of the file is 77mb out of 120mb of the file you shared, it can be reduced even less if you replace heavy components with lighter ones.

You´ll still have to fix reversed bak faces, I changed the color to pink to make it more noticeable the back faces.

I already told you that sketchup 2026 will fix it automatically, why haven´t you installed it? It seems to me that you´re using cr@cked software hence you can´t upgrade easily to sketchup 2026. Am I right?

no, because im in a hurry so i cant upgrade that, now i upgrade this sketchup to 2026. thanks for helping me.
