I have been using Sketchup for the last few days, and my tape measure does not want to leave the guides anywhere I’m attempting to do it. Not in top view, or in orbit. It will say I have placed a guide if I hover over the spot, but there is no visible guide or the typical guide lines. I have it turned on view, I’m not sure what’s going on… Any help would be SUPER appreciated!!
It would help if you share the model so we can see what you’ve got setup.
Since this just started and SketchUp 2023 hasn’t changed in probably a year, what has changed on your computer? Graphics drivers might be it. Did you change the style? Again, seeing your model would help.
What operating system are you actually using? Your profile says, “MacPro 2023” but that doesn’t identify the operating system. What graphics card?
Hello! You’re going to need to help me find all that info DaveR. I just downloaded the newest version yesterday to see if it might fix the issue, but it did not. I re-opened the file and it’s the same across all of my files at this point.
So update your forum profile to show that you are using SketchUp 2024.
As for the Mac OS version and graphics card, click on the apple icon at the top left and you should be able to find that information.
And please share the .skp file so we can see if this is something in the model or something related to your computer.
Version 24.0.598
OS 15.1 (24B83)
Intel Iris Plus Graphics 1536 MB
Not quite sure how to share the file. Working on figuring this all out. Really appreciate the help Dave!!
So put this in your forum profile. Click on the D in the green circle at the top right of the forum page, then the person icon, then Preferences, then Profile. After adding the information remember to scroll down and save the changes.
If it’s less than 16 Mb just drag the file into a reply. Otherwise, upload it to DropBox or We Transfer and share the link.
Look in SketchUp’s Settings (SketchUp menu to the left of File) and see what graphics engine is being used. If the new one, switch to the Classic graphics engine, quit SketchUp and restart it.
What colour are your guides set to in your style settings, Modeling settings tab?
IDIModule11.skp (3.3 MB)
OK. When I opened your file I see a couple of guide lines.
This implies to me that your graphics card is the culprit. Switching to the Classic graphics engine in SketchUp’s Settings>Graphics may fix that.
ok, just did that, and going to re-open! Thanks. I’ll report back if it’s still an issue.
I see two guidelines in your model when I open it. I second @DaveR - on a Mac about the only thing you can try is switching to the Classic display engine.
it also tells me there is one extension ready to be updated every time I reopen Sketchup…
BUT, this did solve the tape measure problem! I have guide lines again!! :).
Thank you SO much!!! Truly! On with my assignment!
Open the Extension Manager, find the extension that needs to be updated and update it.
Good deal.
Done!
Thanks so much once again. This forum has been super helpful learning and navigating the Sketchup world! Much appreciated!!
