Student Log In Problems

Hello…I am Admin for our school’s G Suite account and also part time teacher for computer. Several months ago, I added SketchUp for Schools to our account and began using it myself. Now, I want to finish out the year with 8th graders in SketchUp, but they can’t log in. I can access it along with another teacher, but no students…What can be wrong? Our domain is @countrysidechristian.net. I did delete the app and reinstall via domain install and gave permissions, also pop ups are enabled. edu.sketchup.com is whitelisted, also I took a cue from another entry on this forum and whitelisted file://proxy.html although I have no idea if that helped anything…Any help? …thanks!

Hi MarHay,

We are having the exact same problem at our school as well. We are white listed as well. The teachers were also able to access it but not the students. We wonder if it is a Chrome update and has something to do with age.

We ultimately solved the problem by specifically whitelisting all URLs and redirects that SketchUp for Schools uses. This was necessary because we use a hard blacklist for the student OUs, and then whitelist only what they need. We were able to find them via the developer tools console. Hope this helps.

Hi Mark,

I am chiming in with the sfunk, my colleague. Our school technology admin has whitelisted all the URLs, but the problem lies with Google’s updated Google Workspace for Education editions, specifically, “Primary and secondary education institutions —All users not designated as 18 and over get an age-restricted experience for some Google services.”
We are trying to allow access to our Middle School age students. Please advise.

Did SketchUp for Schools work for you before the age restrictions went into effect this year?

Hi Mark,

Yes, Sketchup for Schools did work prior to the Google change. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

My best,
Sarah

We are having an issue here where some students have no problems logging in on their Chromebooks, while other students are stuck at the white loading screen. ChromeOS versions are 93 and 94 (also tried on a 91), as some students are better at clicking the update notification before it’s forced.

I’ve whitelisted our cloud-filtering service. Added the Marketplace app directly to devices as well as flipped the switch in the store. I’ve added the link to the waffle menu and “installed” the pop-out window. I’ve also cleared the cache each time to make sure the Google login window pops-up. Permissions are allowed for data (including Classroom and Drive)

I’ve also tried both on student and staff networks. I saw another thread and logged into windows first and then on the chromebook and even account doesn’t work.

The same thing is happening at our school. I have cleared cache, cookies and powerwashed the Chromebooks. Not sure what else to do.
