Space Mouse has stopped working properly

I have used it extensively in SU Pro 2018 with no problem. Then it stopped its normal smooth navigating and would only move backward or forward in ragged steps. I worked most of December with 3Dconnexion Support and we wound up deciding that the problem lay in SU, not in SpaceMouse. Any ideas?

And you’re still using SketchUp 2018 as your forum profile shows? SketchUp 2018 hasn’t changed in many years so the fact that the behavior changed recently would imply that the problem does not lie with SketchUp 2018.

I realize that may be the problem, but what can you suggest by way of solving the problem?

Look at what has changed on your computer since it last worked. SketchUp 2018 hasn’t changed in more than 6 years so it’s not that. Maybe it’s related to graphics drivers or some other Windows update.

It’s basic troubleshooting technique, though. If something was working and now it’s not, look at what changed. You can generally ignore what hasn’t changed.

could it just be… broken ?

edit : last year, my MX mouse started behaving weirdly. when booting up my computer, the cursor would stay stuck top left of my screen. using another mouse was fine.

I assumed it was a problem with the software, did a clean install and everything, lost an afternoon… then found a post by some guy on reddit explaining that sometimes the thumb-rest button can get stuck, and when it does, the mouse won’t move anymore.

I opened my mouse, unplugged that button, and all is fine. turns out it was hardware, a known issue with early MX mice.

My SpaceMouse Enterprise just decided to quit one day… I think it just wanted to retire to a nice peaceful life living in my extra cable and adapter box.

have you tried using it in another application. Like others have said, to check its not a hardware issue.

Try the viewer in the 3DConnexion home app. If that doesn’t work, your space mouse isn’t able to talk to the computer. Either the hardware is dead or there is something wrong with the driver.

I tried that and in the 3dxconnction Home/Trainer Section of the installation procedure where I activate via bluetooth the spacemouse performs flawlessly. 3dconnexion Support fells the problem lies some how in SU. This conclusion was reached after spending most of Deember in back and forth trying various possible solutions to the problem.
My graphics card drivers have not been changed nor do they need to, as far as I am concerned anyway, to be upgraded,
My MX mouse is fine.
I seem to have no choice in Windows upgrades as I have asked the computer to advise me when there are upgrdes to the OS and let me decide whether or not to install them. That seems to be ignored and the upgrades are installed like it or not.
Right now, I have a rather expensive paper weight.

Yes. No [problems

It may be something that occurred in SU embedded in a project (I’m an Architect) while I was working in it, But this is a flat out guess.

Were SketchUp and the 3d Connexion drivers installed using the right-click method and choosing “run as administrator”

Is this issue specific to a single SketchUp model file? There would have been no change to the program itself with something you were doing in a model.

No, it wasn’t

Yes I am.
FYI: I am an architect, I use SU and LO to produce my work as Contract Documents that I print on my wide format printer for building permit applications and construction.

Yes you are what?

I’m not sure it matters how you are using SketchUp or LayOut as far as the Space Mouse is concerned.

My suggestion, do a repair of SketchUp using the “run as administrator method” Remove the 3d connexion driver package, then install it using the “run as administrator method”
