Please, can anyone help me recover my layout file?
@colin I have already tried some methods that I observed in other topics, but I was not successful.
Here is the link to download the file (Version LO 2019):

Maybe Colin will be able to open your LO file. I couldn’t. I did extract the largest of the .skp files to look at it. Looks like you need to do some better file management which will help in LayOut. I fixed incorrect tag/layer usage.
Purged unused content.
There’s really no reason you should have 51 styles in the model after purging.
There are loads of excessively large texture in your model. I reduced the some.
I’m sure the other included SketchUp file as well as some of the images could stand some cleanup and reduction as well.
@DaveR It’s a shame you couldn’t open the LO file, but thank you very much for trying and getting back to us. And do you think that cleaning the other files would open up the possibility of me being able to open the LO file?
@colin This is the only hope I have left to not lose months of work, can you help me please?
I doubt cleaning the files will help the existing SketchUp model but you should still go through the process of cleaning them up. If this is a file you need for a project, it might not hurt to assume it’s unrecoverable. Clean up the SketchUp files and then restart the LayOut file. Make sure you’re saving it locally on an internal drive on your computer.
By the way, did you try opening the backup copy of the LayOut file?
Yes, I leave the files saved on the computer’s internal drive.
I don’t know why, but unfortunately it didn’t save the backup file, and auto-save/backup is enabled in the LO settings.
Hmmm… That’s odd. There should have been a backup file. But since it’s more than 2Gb (which is crazy huge) Windows might have had trouble with it.
Even a 1 Gb SketchUp file is mobidly obese.
In fact, because I haven’t yet had the experience of creating a very large file in LayOut, I didn’t pay attention to dividing it into more files, making them less heavy and minimizing the chance of errors.
I’m not suggesting that you divide a huge files into multiple files. I’m telling you to not make such huge files at all. Use simpler components, clean up as you go, reduce texture sizes, etc.
If you just split your 2+ GB SketchUp file into several different SketchUp files you’ll actually wind up with an even larger LayOut file. For what I could see in the SketchUp file I looked at, it really shouldn’t be more than maybe 20 Mb.
In this case, I thought about working with a single SketchUp file, keeping it cleaner and from there dividing the LayOut files, for example, each file containing up to 10 pages with the project details. Wouldn’t that be a viable alternative?
Just to give you an idea, this corrupted file was already 25 pages long and practically all of them contained viewports.
Splitting the LayOut file might help. At least you wouldn’t have all your eggs in one basket if one becomes corrupted. Still you ought to be able to create a 25 page long document in one LO file. Of course maybe not with your computer. The hardware comes into play, too.
True! Now I’m going to wait and see if there is any other solution, I’m still counting on @colin attempt too or any help from the community would be appreciated
Hello guys,
Ultimately, my solution was that I was able to recover a more recent file before the corrupt one through the “cloud”. In addition to the file being saved in my computer’s internal memory, it was also saved in the “cloud” and with that I was able to search for previous versions that were “hidden/saved”.
Here’s a tip, any form of backup you can make, do it.
Many thanks to @DaveR who took the time to help and helped me a lot with tips to improve file performance and make them lighter for more fluid work.
Until the next community, thank you!!
