I’ll try to explain as best I can.
When opening a file, SketchUp crashes, even on a completely blank file, one of those that lets you choose to open a file with a blank template that comes with the application by default. Sometimes, nothing works; sometimes, after several attempts, it finally works; sometimes, no, nothing works; sometimes, a reboot helps; sometimes it doesn’t.
My video drivers are up to date. I have an application that checks if I have all the updated drivers on my computer.
I don’t understand why a program like SketchUp doesn’t have a way to detect on its own, even a self-diagnosis, what’s causing it to crash. It seems to me that it’s easy to blame something other than yourself when you know you can install plugins. It would probably be very wise of them to start making apps that could detect the cause of a crash and help the user use the program when everything installed is approved. It seems logical to me to have a checklist set up internally that allows me to diagnose what prevented the program from opening on the last attempt. I waste a lot of time every day trying to start the application, even with completely blank default templates.
How can I diagnose this problem if, sometimes for no reason, after simple repeated opening attempts on the same file, it works, and sometimes it doesn’t? How can I do this if, sometimes, a reboot helps and sometimes, it doesn’t?
This is by far the worst version of SketchUp I’ve ever had.
Is there anyone who can help me resolve this recurring opening problem?
Thanks
it kinda does. and it packs it in a bugsplat report.
did you get any bugsplat ? did you send them ?
thanks for the reply. no i dont have the chance to see anything, just not opening , nothing no feed back at all.
is there a file a ishould look for in a folder somewhere that can give some hint about it ?
Did you by any chance migrate extensions, using the migrate extensions feature in sup2025, before the crashes occour?
Some time i do but most of the time i dont have any, but when a do have a bugsplat i do send it to them
yes i did , i was running 2024 with all my plugins install
I had / have the same issue with at least one migrated extension, of course the most important one.
Would advice to remove all migrated extensions and re-install the latest version of those extensions the normal way.
One of our most used extension also crashes sup2025 on startup regardless which template i choose.
At this moment the only solution for each new project would be to remove that extension to be able to open sup2025. Once geo location is set i can re-inistall the extension again to continue working on the file in sup22.
Hope your favorite extension does not cause the same issue and all will work fine after a normal re-install of the extensions.
Thanks, I will try to remove all extensions and reinstall one by one all the ones I use and that are approved. Hope it will fix this recurring opening issue
If i can open sketchup…
Is there folders i can remove in one shut so all the plugins i just not load on the opening ?
You can find and delete each migrated extension seperate from within the next folder in one shut:
c:\Users<NAME>\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2025\SketchUp\Plugins\
It could be helpfull to mention which extension you’re having trouble with..
FYIO, DL-Light by Deluminaelab
But i guess it does not matter which extension it is/was/will be since it could be any extension and therefor the solution to remove and reinstall migrated extensions will be the same.
Still have ‘tons’ of extensions to test, check, tryout since i installed sup2025.
At this moment only have 7 extensions working for sup2025, and 37 working for sup22 ^^
So I am not alone; it’s really a pain to work with it now. That is exactly what I am doing right now: uninstalling everything, SketchUp included, and then reinstalling everything from scratch. I lost all my day trying to make it work. We pay for that, and we have to debug it…
I have the same issue, what I noticed that works, is uninstalling the migration plugin and open sketchup 2024 before opening sketchup 2025, even an empty file, then you can close sketchup 2024 and won’t on 2025.
I’m having the same problem sporadically. Sometimes it opens files or starts new ones without issue, but then randomly it will crash without a bug splat in the very same manner you’re reporting.
Uninstall the extension migration plugin.
Did you uninstall and reinstall?
