i’m working on multiple school projects, and accidentally clicked on a past file, I’m not sure if that’s what caused the issue but now both new and old files seem to just open and crash immediately. I restarted the computer in hopes that would fix it but it seems to have changed nothing and with finals quickly approaching this isn’t an issue I would hope to have be dealing with.
Have you tried to open the files on previous versions of sketchup? I had this issue on sketchup 2025, the problem was the extension migrator plugin, I deleted it and it worked fine, I haven’t had any issue with 2026 so far. I recommend you to download sketchup 2024 open a file then try to open the same file on sketchup 2026 and tell us if it opens on both instances of sketchup.
interesting, AI is trained using 2023. the more you know.
still, it gives a lot of advices, from “top your oil level” to “replace you engine”.
@bradyc5 when it crashes, do you get any bugsplats ? if so, do you send them ? do you get a bugsplat number ?
@colin can then have a look at it and tell you at what step it crashed, loading a specific plugin maybe.
a quick thing you can do is to restore all the proper authorisations : download the installer, right click on it, choose “open as administrator”. it’ll open the admin interface. there you can pick repair.
Hi, sorry for the late reply I was fighting with it all evening to still no improvements, it does send a Bug Splat every time it crashes, and I have sent in numerous reports, even following what the crash reports say just continue to send me in a loop. I have Sketchup2026 specifically the version meant for universities. I’ve also completely uninstalled the software last night and redownloaded to continue to deal with the same issue.
When you get a BugSplat and submit it, your browser should open a page that contains a bug number. If you copy one or more of those numbers into a post, @colin or another SketchUp employee should be able to look at the BugSplat and tell you more about what happened.
thank you for that, I didn’t know there was a number attached to the crash. I’ve now re-launched a “new file” same crash… Crash #24939
Quite a few people who see the crash you’re getting are using Lumion, and the crash happens while that is initializing. That seems to be the case for you too.
To see if Lumion might be the problem, go to this folder in File Explorer:
%AppData%\SketchUp\SketchUp 2026\SketchUp\Plugins\
Try moving the Lumion folder and .rb file to somewhere else, and then open SketchUp.
Thank you so much for the help; after removing the folder and file it launched without issue, thank you again
