All of a sudden, a couple of days ago my Sketchup is no longer opening my current projects and generates a bug splat. I do not have any extensions or plug ins currently related to Sketchup. I have sent in the crashes with my email sophtrashy@gmail.com. I have looked through this forum and reddit and have tried multiple things already and nothing has worked. One thing I have not been able to try is changing the preferences file name as I cannot find it. Please help me
Some of us are having this trouble on windows, I don’t think it’s a plugin’s issue, I have disabled all my extensions and keep having this problem, by some unknown reason to me, opening the file on SketchUp 2025 lets me open on sketchup 2026.
How do I do that?
Download Sketchup 2025 and run the installer as admin. Then open the file you want to open on 2026 on 2025, once it’s open, try to open the same file on 2026, if it opens it tells you that it’s a read only file, but you can save it with another name and work on it. but maybe you don’t need to do all that, I do it because of my workplace and plugins are on 2026, but you don’t have any plugins installed, you can work on sketchup 2025 if it doesn’t crash until a fix for this problem is released.
I wouldn’t publish my personal email on any forum, there are a lot of bots hunting for that kind of information.
It will be located at:
%LocalAppData%/SketchUp/SketchUp 2026/SketchUp/
Open a File Explorer window, and paste the path above into the address bar, then click ENTER
