Hi!
I was in the middle of modeling a building when my project suddenly closed and automatically sent a bug report. Since then, for the past three hours, I have been trying to reopen any SketchUp project, but none of them will open. Each time, it immediately triggers a BugSplat.
I do not have any solution at the moment, and I have a fairly urgent rendering to deliver. I have just paid for my annual license, so I find it really disappointing to encounter such a major bug right at the beginning of my use of the software.
Thank you in advance for your help, and I wish you a pleasant evening.
Share the SketchUp file so we can see what you’ve got.
Do you have the .skb backup file?
Where were you saving the file while working on it? Were you also saving it to your Trimble Connect storage? Any chance you might have started a LayOut file using the SketchUp file?
Please correct your forum profile. 2026 is not an operating system and Windows is not a graphics card.
Ok, I can’t share with you the sketchup file because it is too big.. Yes, I do have the .skb backup file. I tried to open it, but it says that it is not a SketchUp file, and it also immediately sends a bug report. I have to say this has never happened to me before
I was saving the file on my computer and not on my Trimble Connect storage. I also did not start any LayOut file from this SketchUp file
And yes, sorry about my profile, I had set it up very quickly before. I have now updated everything
Upload it to Drop Box and share the link. Do the same with the .skb file.
That’s unfortunate. If you had done so you would have at least one other possible copy to open.
Okay, thank a lot, i’m so sorry, i’m new here, so idk all !
Here is a google drive!

You have to make the file accessible.
Sorry, it’s done!
The .skp file opened fine for me in SketchUp 2026. I see this when it opens.
You should turn off Length Snapping in Model Info>Units.
I went through it and did my usual cleanup process. Fixed incorrect tag usage.
And purged unused content.
You should make sure to keep your file clean as you go.
Here’s the purged file. See if it will stay open for you.
BTW, when you installed SketchUp 2026 did you do it correctly? That requires right clicking on the downloaded installer and selecting Run as administrator.
Great, thank you so much! I’ll give it a try. No, I didn’t run it as administrator
maybe that’s what’s causing the problem?
Maybe. Close SketchUp and LayOut, find the installer in your Downloads folder, right click on it, choose Run as administrator, and then select Repair when the option is presented.
I ran it as an administrator and then tried to open a new blank file, but it still does the same thing. I don’t understand why….
Did you send in the Bug Splat report? Maybe @colin can look it up and identify the issue.
Yes of course i did it! But thank you so much all the same ![]()
It looks like the crashed happened while Lumion was loading. Or it could have been the next extension that was about to load.
Do you get a crash if you start a new model, instead of opening an existing one?
Even though I haven’t opened Lumion for the past two days, and this morning everything was fine, yes, it crashes even if I start a new model
Try disabling the Lumion extension and see what happens.
It’s not Lumion it’s probably Lumion’s plugin for sketchup, for direct link I guess.
I can’t open any of my SketchUp files anymore to remove all the plugins from within SketchUp, because it crashes immediately and closes the window..I tried renaming the Plugins folder ( because the support send me an email and say to do that, and I even went to the Extension Warehouse website to uninstall the extensions, but it says that it’s impossible to uninstall them..
yes, you can’t uninstall or install straight from the website, it still requires to open sketchup.
if you look inside the plugin folder, there should be a folder with lumion in its name, as well as a single file with lumion in it. these must be deleted. it’s a more manual / brutal way of uninstalling a plugin.
then relaunch sketchup, does it work ?
Everything’s all good now, I checked with support and they told me to manually uninstall and remove all traces of SketchUp from my computer, then reinstall the offline version. Everything is working again now. Thank you so much to everyone for your time and help! Wishing you all a wonderful end-of-year holiday season ![]()
