Hi! I’m using Sketchup web + Twin Motion 2022. When I import the file in TM nothing shows up in the scene panel and no model appears.
- importing an .fbx file of the same model to TM works
- the .skp didn’t load in blender either
- this leads me to think it’s an issue with the original file rather than with TM.
I wanted to see if it imported to TM differently if it stayed as a .skp file as I did lose a couple of faces when I imported via .fbx export.
Any advice? Many thanks!!
hey,
can you share the skp file here with us? so we can check with SU pro ?
I wonder if it’s because your twinmotion version is “old”.
sketchup web / ipad makes skp2025 files. they open fine in 2021-2025 version sketchup, but it could be that twinmotion2022 has some issue with something.
if that’s the case, there are ways to convert your sketchup file to an older version
Unfortunately I had to run an older TM because my mac is too old to run 2023/2024 versions.
Thanks for looking!
IMPROV ONTARIO MODEL (5).skp (673.0 KB)
yeah, I thought so.
I’ll check on my pc (I don’t have TM installed on my mac) with the latest version to see if it opens.
if it opens, I’ll send you an older version of your file to try in 22
yeah, it imports fine in version 25
can you try with this file ?
I downgraded it to sketchup 2020.
IMPROV ONTARIO MODEL 2020.skp (1005.8 KB)
if it works, in my previous message I gave this link :
it’s a free app that will convert your sketchup file to an older version

oh wow that works, thank you so much!! now I just need to learn how to set up my sketchup file so that I can replace materials individually in TM! should they all be separate groups - is that it?
yes and no.
they should, but that’s more for sketchup itself
in twinmotion, when you import a file, you can choose to collapse it by materials, or to keep the structure (groups, components) or even to merge everything. if it’s well structured in sketchup, no need to collapse anything.
then, on your left you can explore the material library, when you find one you like, just slide it on your model on the SU material you want to replace.
meaning that in sketchup, all the different materials have to be actually different. if you have black paint and black velvet, you need 2 separate materials in SU. they don’t even need to be close to the final material
This video from Justin is 5y old, I think he has some more recent (maybe even some from 22?) but it shows basically how to go from SU to TM

Thanks so much ateliernab! That was super helpful and stopped me going back and trying to re-make groups at this stage.
I’ve been following along with Justin as I learn, but hadn’t seen that video yet.
Thanks for all the help!

hello
in addition to what’s been said, remember you can also change the way your material is going to be applied. (the apply to selection option is quite new and i’m afraid it won’t be available for your version though)
I think it was there in 22 because that’s when I started teaching twinmotion and… I have a vague memory of it.
but yeah, lots of little things have changed, and it’s hard to remember what and when…
