SKP file will NOT open and associated Layout file will not open either!

My SketchUp 2025 will not open. I have tried several ways to work through it but to no avail! The backup files won’t even open and even the pdf I created from the Layout file, at this point, wont open either! I feel like the problem has to be in the skp file. Any thoughts? I tried to upload my file but its about 38 mb, so too big … if you can send me link I can drop to you. I’ve been using SketchUp for over 25 years and never had an issue like this. I’d HATE to have to rebuild this file if at all possible, but if I have to I will.

Thanks so much for any help you might be able to offer

Did you try renaming the .skb file and opening it?

Upload the files to DropBox or We Transfer and share the link.

Where have you been saving the files while working on them?

I did try renaming the skb file and got nowhere. I typically save them to our server but often bring them home to work at nights or weekends on a samsung 1TB portable drive. I will upload my file to dropbox and share.

Working on files that are not saved to an internal drive has been a problem for many users. The general advice is to copy the files to your internal drive while working on them and then copying them back to the network or external drive after you’ve saved and closed the file.

I don’t suppose you’ve also been saving your SketchUp file to your Trimble Connect storage have you?

Sadly not, but a good thought for the future!
See if this dropbox link works for you …

It would give you an additional back with incremental versions created every time you save to Trimble Connect. You could access the file from home without toting your external drive, too.

I couldn’t open your file either. It doesn’t show the typical nothing-but-zeroes issue that we often see with files saved externally. Maybe @colin would be able to use his magic club to beat it back into a useful form.

by all means forward to him! lol

I pinged him already. He’ll check in when he has a moment.

thanks so much!

The file seems to be a mixture of LayOut data and SketchUp data. Inside that file is an embedded SKP named Wright Lakehouse IV Pool & Carport 040325_324810.skp, but it also doesn’t have the right data in it.

I can see that maybe … sometimes I insert model pieces, groups or components, from one skp file to another, simply by copy-&-paste. This just seems like a really weird issue to have!
