SketchUp scenes missing in LayOut with new renamed project

I have copied my LayOut files from a previous project to a new directory so then I get a missing SketchUp file in references - not a problem - I click on the referenced SketchUp file to edit and it opens a SketchUp file in the AppData directory I then save the SketchUp file in the directory I want and rename it to the correct name for the file and remove the prefix and suffix that shows in the AppData directory name.
The issue I have is now none of the named scenes in the new renamed SketchUp file are showing in the LayOut file correctly - the scenes are still there in the SketchUp file but nothing is showing in the scenes in LayOut - just blank. Any ideas how to fix this? Or how is the best way to reuse SketchUp and LayOut files for new projects?

What properties show modified for the viewports in the SketchUp Model panel?

In the SketchUp model - the properties in the scenes tray - everthing is checked is this what you mean?

No. In LayOut’s SketchUp Model panel, what properties have you modified for the viewport?

I have not modified anything in the LayOut - in the LayOut SketchUp model panel it says it is referencing the correct view from SketchUp

Share the LayOut file and the associated SketchUp file so I can see exactly what you’ve got.

My guess is that the model paths in the Document Setup>References window are not linked to the right files.

Anssi - you would think - right? but the references are correct. all I did was copy, rename and move the files to a new folder

I’m currently having the same problem with my file. I’ve had this issue in the past and it usually works itself out somehow.

I honestly think that the problem is that the software only costs 349 dollars per year per seat. I think at that price point you have to live with some issues like this.

It would be interesting to see your LayOut and SketchUp files. I bet there’s an explanation for what you’re seeing.

I haven’t exhausted every option trying to fix it yet. I just noticed OP was having the same problem as I was currently having.

I suspect the references are what is causing the issue, but for some reason I am unable to unlink the references to the old version of the file. It just lets me click unlink, acts like it’s working hard at doing something, then the reference remains.

I don’t doubt that there’s an explanation for this, but I can think of 349 reasons per year per person that this software shouldn’t be such a delicate feat of balance and execution to use effectively.

Well looks like I have a bigger problem. Sketchup is not even saving my model when I click save.

You have three different SketchUp references in your LayOut file. Two of them are embedded.

You shouldn’t be trying to unlink them. Instead select the .skp reference and use Relink.

I guess I don’t find it to be that way.at all.

As for the scenes. I see the same scenes in your SketchUp model that are shown in the Scenes dropdown list.

Wouldn’t hurt to clean up your SketchUp model, too. Fixed incorrect tag usage.

And purged unused stuff from the model.

I’m seeing the same thing. My issue is that I’m trying to work on google drive and it’s not syncing or allowing me to save properly.

Touche for now, DaveR!

You should not be working on files saved directly to Google Drive or any other cloud location. That’s a sure way to wind up with corrupted files. Plenty of examples here in the forum of that. Several just today.

Is anyone here using Sketchup for commercial purposes with other people? Are those people tediously saving copies of their work to drive multiple times per day?

I should clarify that I ask that question not to complain (though I was complaining earlier) but to know if there are any viable options for collaboration on the same model that allow for safe back up and version control in situations where the cloud has problems.

The safe option for saving files is to save them locally and copy them to the cloud after you’ve successfuly saved them.

For SketchUp files you can also save them to Trimble Connect and share the files with others but you should still be saving them to a local foolder on your computer.

I get the impression you think I’m writing this stuff to make your life miserable. I’m not. What I’ve written comes from years of seeing many other users reporting unrecoverable corrupted files due to working on them while they are saved to cloud locations or other external locations. I’m just trying to prevent you from having the same experience others have had.

Absolutely not. I’m frustrated because I’m way behind on a project and a lot of the reasons for that are due to growing pains learning how to use SU/LO (and maybe [just maybe] a lack of scalability with this software).

I appreciate that you spend a lot of your precious time helping people here and I greatly appreciate the help you’ve given me in threads that I’ve posted.

I do need a viable path to being able to work on the same models with my team. Figuring out that path is like #14 on my ever increasing list of sketchup-related things to do.

I don’t know how you are set up.

I don’t need to collaborate with others on a model.

I save everything to a local drive and use Google Drive for Desktop to sync and backup my SketchUp and Layout files (I also backup regularly to other local drives).

Every time I make a save in a model, the model file is queued and synced to my Google Drive – I have never had any issues with this, for example, corrupt files.

An advantage of syncing to Google Drive is that is that it keeps versions of my files – the model I am working on has nearly 100 versions I could download.

I don’t know what collaboration would entail but it seems to me that only one person could be working on a model at any one time and that people would need to notify others that they were working on the model…?

If I were to take someone on – it seems to me that using Google Drive for Desktop would work if two of us needed to access the same model, as long as we didn’t work on it at the same time.

This has been discussed before on the forum.

I don’t use Trimble Connect.
