Sketchup Pro random Crashing

Hi Guys,

My sketch up Pro 2021 keeps crashing randomly. Only way I found to fix is to force quit and restart, which is really annoying!

Im running this on Mac Pro 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7 - High Sierra
GFX - NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB / Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

Can anyone tell me how to fix this please?

Thanks!

Might be worth looking at the System Requirements for SU2021. High Sierra (OSX 10.13) isn’t supported. This might be the problem.

Thanks dave, will have a look

Maybe you can upgrade your OS to 10.15 or higher. That might take care of it.

I wonder what is the newest MacOS version that has support for the Nvidia graphics cards.

Good question. My MacBook Pro with the Nvidia graphics card is now only used with a scanner because it’s now a slow thing that can no longer be upgraded.

I have read about people getting it going in later versions, but the latest from Apple that supports Nvidia is 10.12.

So the OP’s 10.13 already doesn’t support his graphics card…

Right, unless he found one of the work arounds that I had read about.

Soooo, I tried updating the OS to 11.2.1 Big Sur and it still has the same problem. I get the spinny Rainbow and have to force quit. Seems to happen if i move around a lot…

Any ideas??? :frowning:

That is not a crash, to my way of thinking. SketchUp might be stuck in an “infinite loop” (which would be very bad, a bug somewhere), or it might be making progress on an operation that takes a long time. How long do you wait before doing a Force Quit?

Can you briefly describe the SketchUp model (e.g., how many edges and faces are in the model, according to the Model Info panel), and are profiles and/or shadows enabled in the active style? By “move around” do you mean pan and orbit the camera?

I have waited up to 30 mins and it doesn’t recover from the spinny rainbow.

Seems to happen when I orbit the cam

OK, that’s a fairly long time  thanks for the specifics. Perhaps an extension is trying to do something? You might try using the Extension Manager window to disable all extensions, quit and restart SketchUp, and see if the behavior has changed.

Or try a simpler model (one with just a few dozen edges and faces). Your model with 100K edges is not what I would consider huge, but if Profiles and/or Shadows are enabled in the current style, it might be triggering something wrong.
