SketchUp Pro 2020 crashing without opening, producing bugsplats

Thanks everyone. Colin that fixes the issue thanks

I believe I’m having the same issue on a Mac. SketchUp 20 won’t open. It repeatedly goes to the Bug Splat page. Is there a fix for this? Thanks

Your profile says you are using Sierra which is 10.12. SketchUp 2020 doesn’t support that version of the Mac OS. That may be your problem.

This page resolved the issue.

I’m assuming that I have to reinstall all extensions? Would one or more of them be the issue?

Thanks,
J

That’s a possibility.

I’m on 10.15.7

I’ll change my profile. thanks for pointing that out!

If you have any advice it would be greatly appreciated. I updated my information. I’ve been experiencing crashes for 3 days now, but today it refused to open after the last Bug Splat. Now I only get Bug Splats. I followed the directions in the link and it did open again.

Is there a way to identify what is causing the problem?

Have you been sending in your Bug Splat reports with something to identify that they came from you?

I gather that SU2020 had been working before and these splats are a recent thing. Is that correct? If so, look at what has changed. SketchUp 2020 didn’t change in the last week so that’s not likely where the problem is. Did you install some new extension? Was there an OS update? Have you tried powering the computer off completely and then restarting it? Which 2020 version are you running? Might be a long shot but you might try downloading and reinstalling SketchUp.

If you rename the Plugins folder in ~/Library/Application Support/SketchUp/SketchUp 2020/SketchUp will SketchUp start without the Bug Splat?

What is the graphics card? Your profile doesn’t really identify it. Perhaps it’s a graphics driver issue. That’s a common reason for Bug Splats on startup. Are you using an external monitor? If so, what happens if you disconnect it, do a cold restart and try to run SketchUp?

Yes, I sent in a series of Bug Splats.

SU 20 is a fresh install for this new machine (iMac). So nothing has really changed other than carrying over the extensions I was using.

I have not installed Big Sur because of driver issues.

Shut it down, started it up. Same result.

It works after the directions in the link. I don’t think I need a fresh install.

Running 21.0.338. Sorry, I thought it was 20.

I’m not seeing the path you mention in the Plugin’s library folder.

I updated the graphic card specs. I’m running 4 - 32 GB DDR4 2667 MHz

I’m running an iMac & Wacom Cintiq. I can try restarting after unplugging the Cintiq, but that’s a necessary device.

How did you ā€œcarry overā€ the extensions?

OK. That’s a bit different. Maybe you can update your profile again.

Well, maybe you can get along without it long enough to do some testing.

I did fresh installs of all the extensions I was using on a prior machine. I think what I’ll do first is turn off the ones I don’t use frequently.

Sorry, my last machine was '20. (Work machine)

Fresh installs from the sources? That’s good.

Try that but if it doesn’t work, try what I suggested. Rename the Plugins folder so none of the extensions load (except the OEM ones that will load anyway.) If SketchUp is stable, then, add a few extensions and see what happens. If it’s still running well, add some more and see what you get. Keep track of what you are installing. If SketchUp suddenly starts Bug Splatting because of an extension, you’ll be able to narrow down the problem extension.

Thanks. I was unable to locate that path in the Plugins Library folder. It only lists the actual extensions.

Sorry, you mean actually rename the folder

thanks for your help!

Yeah. Renaming the folder to something else will make SketchUp ignore it when starting up but you don’t need to remove all of the extensions from the computer. If it turns out that you’re still getting the Bug Splats with that folder renamed, it would be safe to assume it’s not an extension causing the problem.
