I am having the same recurring issues, where tools like draw, measure, rotate… really any of them, will temporarily stop working. The only fix seems to be to wait a few minutes or even restart Sketchup. I have been using Sketchup since the beginning and I have never had this issue.
From what I have been reading it sounds like its a known issue with the newer versions of Mac OS (I am on Sonoma 14.6.1. I first thought it must be a computer memory or performance issue, but it happens even when I shut down all other applications on my computer and work on a super basic model. The issue is even further exacerbated when I try to use Enscape.
It has been so difficult to deal with that I have resorted to having to work on a PC, which I would really rather not do.
I had not been using Sketchup for the last year, so I am assuming this is a new issue.
Is there anything that I can do to alleviate this issue?
Is this just Sketchup being behind in updating to align with Mac OS updates?
Any help or insight would be very greatly appreciated.
well this is not a general problem no. I’m on a m1 myself and don’t see what you’re describing.
very first step would be to upgrade to sonoma 14.7.4 - the latest version.
also, where did you install sketchup ? did you drag the sketchup folder into your application folder as instructed ?
As soon as I posted this, I found a number of posts on the same topic, but they are over a year old. I probably didn’t describe the issue clearly enough, but basically it won’t snap, can’t move, can’t rotate. Its like its thinking about it but is not frozen. The earlier posts said to change to the classic graphics engine, which I have tried, but that only seems to help marginally… the issue still persists.
I have not tried to update the MacOS further (the one I have was just recently offered to me as an update) but I am also concerned the performance could get even worse.
I have tried turning off all extensions.
I have the most up to date OS.
It is now happening every couple of minutes and the only solution is to close and then restart Skethup.
This is now not just an inconvenience but it is making it so that I am practically non-functional.
have you tried sketchup 2025?
it solves an issue of memory leak from 2024. RAM would get more and more used by SU up to a point where there was none left.
you can simply download 25, quickly install it, no need for extensions or anything, and check if the situation repeats.
