Hi, I updated my model and the layout file is not updating to reflect changes, despite me doing the usual steps (saving sketchup file, syncing model in layout). I made small changes to the model and wanted to update the layout file but it doesn’t recognize the changes at all. I’m getting the yellow warning triangle in every image. So I thought I’d send the sketchup file to a new layout doc and its still not working. I just downloaded the latest sketchup. Working on a Macbook M1 pro Sanoma 14.6.1.
Hmm…Both of your LayOut files are updating for me when I relink to the .skp file you shared. I had to relink to it since the original path was to the folder on your computer.
The thumbnails for both LO files show the yellow triangle with the viewport. (It’s hidden behind the LO icon the Untitled one.
That indicates LayOut recognized the SketchUp file is newer than its embedded reference and as I wrote, normally also means that Auto Render is disabled so it can automatically update the reference.
The only thing I’m seeing that might become a problem is that you’ve modified the Camera properties for one of the viewports in the Ksandra bathroom file. That can be a risky thing and I advise against it. In the case of this viewport there was really no need for it to be modified in the first place and I would suggest resetting it.
What happens if you close the SketchUp model and then, in LayOut, right click on a viewport and choose Open with SketchUp? Can you then make edits to the model, save, and then have LO update?
BTW, I found some unused materials and styles in the .skp file along with some ridiculously large textures probably from the 3D Warehouse. I cleaned up the model and updated the LO files. This resulted in a 67% reduction in the size of the .skp file and similar for the LO files. If you want to continue on using these files, open up Document Setup>References in LO and relink to this .skp file after you save it where it needs to be.
Hi DaveR thanks so much for taking a look. I closed everything down and restarted my computer. I’ve tried the option of opening via the viewport, but nothing. The viewport won’t update to the scene it is supposed to be on. No matter which scene I choose, it stays on the first scene. I’ve even tried inserting the model again, but nothing is showing.
With regards to cleaning up the model. Can you please tell me the best way to do this? I’m not sure I’m doing it the correct way because the file size isn’t changing for me.
Which viewport are you trying to update to a new scene? Can you share the latest version of your LO file?
As for cleaning up the model, I purged unused (Model Info>Statistics>Purge Unused) and then use Material Resizer from the Extension Warehouse to reduce the size of the large textures.
FWIW I have been having issues with “Open in SketchUp” from Layout (I’m on Windows) - it often tries to open but stalls or doesn’t fully open. Then I would have to force quit SU.
But I think it would only happen when I was in LO24 and would be referencing a SU23 file. I think it would resolve after saving the SU23 as a SU24 file.
If, for example, you tried to change the scene associated with this viewport, the Camera will not reflect that of the new scene because you have overridden the scene properties for that viewport in LayOut. Note the dark gray background in the Camera section of the SketchUp Model panel along with the Reset buttons.
Hi Dave I’d selected floorplan perspective, but it was only showing the parallel projection floorplan and no matter which scene I chose, it stayed on the 2D floorplan.
I appreciate you taking the time to help me, I’ve no idea why its just righted itself.
When I open your file from scratch it momentarily shows the Parallel Projection view on the third sheet but quickly updates to show the Perspective view.
Are you saying it has now switched?
Here are two examples showing that the viewport won’t update when changing scenes. First with the Camera modified.
Hi Hannah and all
we are having the exact same problems also on windows 11. i have uninstalled and reinstalled sketchUp with no gain.
very interested in a fix or workaround while they fix the bugs
Thanks Gavin
FWIW, I haven’t had any problems with files updating in LayOut on Windows 11. It would be helpful if you shared a LayOut file that exhibits the problem. As I showed, above, Hannah’s file behaved normally for me.
