Sketchup lagging to the point tools do not work

My program is lagging. The tool changer works albeit a little slower than usual but the tools themselves are not working. Push/Pull is not highlighting objects when the cursor is hovered over them. Line tool does not click and drag (it clicks after a lag but does not drag)…etc

Anyone else ever have these issues?

Metal was developed and deployed a decade ago, long before the M chips existed, and works perfectly fine on intel based machines with 3rd party video cards.

My 2019 MBP has AMD Radeon Pro M5500 with 8GB. I’m not seeing the lags you describe. And @monospaced is correct about Metal not requiring an M chip. Are you sure that SketchUp is using the Radeon, not an integrated graphics? Check in SketchUp->Settings->Graphics at the bottom of the panel.

What you describe are some of the minor symptoms you get when you have done what I talk about in this post:

I’ve had this issue and so have others. There is a thread on it somewhere but I searched for 10 minutes and couldn’t find the most recent thread on it. One solution that worked for people was switching between the old and the new graphics engine—but that solution didn’t help me. Another solution that works some of the time is to click out of sketch-up into a new application, and then click back into Sketchup—this seems to temporarily (10–15 minutes) solve the issue some of the time, but not all of the time. Most of the people on the thread (myself included) were on M1 and M2 series Macs. I used to have a similar issue in the Layout app with an Intel Mac.
