For the past week I’ve noticed what seems to be some type of graphical lagging, pausing, semi-crash with SU2024. The same file in SU2023 performs as expected/normal. Sometimes it happens when I drawing the first rectangle after creating a new file and sometimes it’s later in development. All the sudden during modeling, without opening/using/running any other plugin or using any other tool, I will loose the ability to click on anything. Sometimes when I draw a rectangle on a group to push/pull, the rectangle acts like a new rectangle over the group being edited, as if its not connected. Other times SU seems to freeze and won’t move for a few moments, and then acts like it catching up, but then I it’s doesn’t go back to normal. In all of these situations, I have to restart SU2024 or restart my computer to get more work time in SU2024 without this issue. This week I’ve had to work solely in SU2023. The files are not complex (edges are 105,000 & faces are 66,216). It seems like it may be an issue between SU2024 and the M1/Metal/Etc? Any ideas? Anyone else experiencing this?
Try using the classic graphics engine instead of the “new” graphics engine.
I found the five bugsplats you sent in, thanks for those.
Haven’t yet figured out what they have in common. Do you have an example file I can try, that shows lagging in 2024 and not in 2023?
Old engine seems to solve the issue. I’m guessing the new engine isn’t working well with M-chips (I have an M1 Macbook Pro)?
the new engine was developed by appel precisely for the M-chips.
so far, the M3 chips have had the most problems with SU’s implementation, I’m on a M1 mac mini and it was a net gain on all fronts…
Up until the past few months it has been for me as well. I can’t figure out what could have changed on my end that would have started this issue. There haven’t been any updates or chances so the problem is very strange. As it goes, I’ll probably find some small thing I haven’t thought about yet at some point, but so far it’s something super frustrating that is slowing down the workflow.
