Sketchup crashes on recent 2024 update

A side note: Working on models saved directly to the cloud is risky. For many users doing this has resulted in corrupted unrecoverable files. There are numerous threads on the forum with users reporting issues and sharing files that have lost major portions if not all file contents. Your choice but just be aware.

Thanks for the suggestion, i did do that already. I deleted all SU folders under appdata/local and roaming. and then ran SU also tried it again when i uninstalled and reinstalled.

Have you tried a Test user profile ?

One quick way to test is to create a new user named ā€œTestā€ (or whatever), log out of your normal user account, log into the new ā€œTestā€ account and attempt to load SketchUp.

log out of trimble?

Well, I’m talkin’ about a Windows User account on your machine.
But you can only be logged in on two machines (users) per SketchUp subscription license.
So yes, it may be safe to log out first.

I don’t have high hopes for this test as Kath thinks this is a Qt 5 bug. It is weird however that it does not happen to everyone. You may just be forced to wait until an upcoming SketchUp release that uses Qt 6.

I have the same machine Victus with 4060 card and had same issue AFTER the recent windows 24h2 update. Before the update there is no problem with SKP2024 new grahic engine, it works on both laptop and external monitor seamlessly.
And my Nvidia Experience software crashes too when opened after the windows update.

I tried rolling back to previous windows build. SKP2024 works again, but windows explorer crashes, so i have to update to 24H2 again… Very frustraing.

I tried different graphic card driver version, and different SKP2024 sub version, none of that works with 24H2. They all crashes in the same way, when using SKP new graphic engine in laptop monitor fullscreen. I can only use my external monitor as the default monitor to run SKP2024 with new graphic engine.

And one more thing to mention, if a SKP file is saved in 2024, when I use 2023 to open it, it crashes too in the same way. But if I open 2023 and click the file > open the SKP saved in 2024, it open correctly, not sure if it is related.

Ah, okay, it may not be a Qt bug but a Windows DirectX bug.
EDIT: MS Copilot tells me also ā€œit has also been reported to have some issues, including problems with internet connectivity, clipboard history, and disk cleanupā€ [1]

I’m still running Win 11 23H2 so perhaps why I haven’t seen this behavior.

hey bro any news on fixing this issue, I think the issue might be switching between the integrated graphic card and 4060 causing the problem, or the latest 24h2 has some weird bug on switching. This problem happens to some of my game (street fighter 6) too, can only run when plugging into external monitor

have you tried with the more recent sketchup2025 ? it fixes several graphic things.

I tried the 2025, fixed other problems such as crashing when updating scene. But the crashes when maximizing on laptop screen or moving windows between monitor and laptop screen still persists. Also can’t run some of 3D games on the laptop screen, but work fine with external monitor

I guess the last resort is to reinstall an older version of windows, and just never update windows on this machine
