Sketchup crash with SKB file

Hi, is there any chance to somehow get the functional SKP from SKB file? I tried to rename it to skp, but Sketchup will just crash. I have “2017 Make” version and the file is made from this Sketchup version.

Sadly my drive just died somewhow and I had to pay for a recoevry lab. They were able to get like 90% of the data but sadly the original skp file was in the 10% of corrupted files. The .skb file shoud be usable because its among the saved files, on first look the content of the file looks very similar to .skp files that can be opened. But Its impossible to open it. There is like 7 day difference between the last working .skp file and this .skb which was a ton of work…

I can possibly upload the file somewhere but it has almost 1GB. If it would help to include even the last working file (a week older .skp file) I can upload them both. They are about the same sizes

“almost 1GB” is a huge file.

You could upload them to DropBox or WeTransfer and share the link.

Typically recovery applications do a good job of messing up complex models. I wouldn’t hold my breath that anything can be done to save the file. You might go ahead and restart the model. I presume this is a hobby for you?

Yes, its just a hobby but I spend so many hours in that one week, that if that SKB file would be working it would save me from probably same week of work if not a little bit more…

You might get lucky.

Ok here is the SKB file in a zip - WeTransfer - Send Large Files & Share Photos Online - Up to 2GB Free

I can’t open that file either. I don’t know what is wrong with it, but I suspect Dave is correct that the recovery program mangled it.

I took a look at your file. It appears to be missing a great deal of data. I couldn’t do anything with it. I expect starting over is the only solution.

Ok thanks anyway :slightly_smiling_face: I guess I have no other choice :frowning:
