Where are you saving the file as you are working on it?

Update and complete your forum profile. Then you won’t have to keep adding that information to your posts.

google drive as a local drive - not a problem in previous versions

So that’s still out in the cloud, not on a local (internal) drive.

Sounds like you’ve been lucky. Lots of users have reported the same type of problem when working on files saved directly to the cloud. This has been an issue for many years. There are numerous threads here.

Best practice has always been to save files directly to a folder on the internal drive. Sync it to Google Drive if you need to. Or you could save the file to your Trimble Connect storage. There’s unlimited space there included with your subscription. If you have to open the file from your Google Drive, first download it to your computer and open it from there.

Can you open the .skb backup file after changing the extension to .skp?

the skb opens fine, (luckily).

However, I get a read only warning whenever the actual file is about to be “clouded” - and then I have to wait the time it takes for the sync to complete.

I see the point in your argument and I think I need to change the save and back up regime. But change is always frustrating … and it was never like this before, sob

Anyway, thanks for help

Take a look at how Trimble Connect works. When you open a file saved there it first gets downloaded into a temporary folder on your internal drive so you are working on the internally saved file. It only go back to Trimble Connect when you save the file there. When you do save back to Trimble Connect it creates an incremental save so you also have the option to go back to an earlier version if needed.
