This started happening to me too. Maybe not 2 mins but I haven’t timed it but for sure takes longer to open a basic template I created for all my new projects. Interesting thing is this started happening on two different computers in two locations.
What plugins you have installed?
I have found that 2026.2 is taking longer to open files directly or from Layout.
But not as long as 2 minutes.
Nothing has changed about my files, workflow or SketchUp arrangement.
That seems crazy. Rightly or wrongly, it feels like there are still issues with 2026 so I can see myself sticking with 2025 for a while yet
By the way, Paul, I was in your neck of the woods (Debenham, Stowmarket) doing a laser scan on Monday. What a lovely part of the country, although a long old drive from Bristol ![]()
It would be good to know details about the SSD or HDD, there are SSD that are slow as well even slower than an HDD.
Typical old SATA SSDs usually have speeds of no less than 400-450MB/s, and even the best enterprise HDDs don’t exceed 300MB/s. So, what you’re saying doesn’t hold up.
When I went to local app data as DanRathbun outlined, there was nothing there.
One thing I am seeing, is even though I’ve uninstalled previous versions of sketchup, when I go to localappdata, there are folders for previous versions. Would that affect this?
I am the only user in my office and it is a desktop. I have my profile set up as administrator.
yeah, this would affect your install. because your app data is somewhere, and it looks like it’s not where it should be.
could it be on a shared network, a server maybe ?
something else I am seeing is that when I go to preferences, it is showing the file location of materials as being in appdata\roaming\sketchup\sketchup 2026\sketchup\materials\, however it is not there in actuality and the materials folder is stored under the programdata, not appdata.
I left the materials folder where it was and then also copied to where it was pointing in preferences. this brought up two copies of everything in the materials library. I then took materials out of program data so it would only read in appdata roaming. When I next went to open the file I received the attached message–“please wait while windows configures sketchup 2026” It then hung on the “gathering required information”, so I canceled it and put everything back as before.
I am a small shop–it is just me myself and I, no server or shared network.
Okay, I just deleted the webcache folder. (funny that trimble support didn’t suggest this) That gets rid of anything that is a problem and sketchup will create a new webcache folder. This is making it speed up from the 2minutes or greater opening time. In my opinion it is still slow, however it is faster than before. My webcache is located at appdata\roaming\sketchup\sketchup 2026\
I timed it like I did before–40 seconds to open new empty file, 53 seconds to open existing drawing file.
You’re right.
Incorrect. The distributed resources (incl. Materials) are copied (by SketchUp) to the %ProgramData% path where they will be shared by all users that log onto a machine.
The individual user’s resources (incl. Materials) are meant to be saved and loaded from the %AppData% path. (This is the roaming user profile path.)
At the %LocalAppData% path there should be a folder for Trimble Connect (".tc") a "working" folder, a "tmpcache.dat" file, and a "PrivatePreferences.json" file.
Glad for you but this didn’t do ■■■■ for me.
