SketchUp 2026 is not located in Application folder after installation on Mac

I have just installed SketchUp 2026 on my MacBook Pro. After restarting, I noticed that the SketchUp and LayOut application icons are not located in the Applications folder, where previous versions and other programs normally are.

Under Library → Application Support, there is a “SketchUp 2026” folder containing all files. In addition, SketchUp 2026 has created its own folder directly at the root level of the hard drive instead of inside Program/Applications, there is also an eject symbol next to it. (see attached image)

I am concerned that plugins and Enscape may not work correctly when the program is installed in the wrong location. What is the best way to fix this properly?

this means you haven’t installed sketchup. what you’re seeing is the disk image you downloaded and opened.

see the “sketchup 2026” folder ? drag it on to the “applications” shortcut.
then eject it and delete the disk image.

this is what the disk image looks like when you’re not looking at it in list mode :

until you do that, yes sketchup will launch, but from the disk image, meaning it won’t save some of your preferences, it’ll be slower, might be unstable…

Thank you.

One way to avoid or detect this problem is to eject the install dmg immediately after installing. If it’s not mounted, the app can’t be found there.

The dmg is a “disk image”, but it’s not writable, so weird things happen if you run SketchUp (or any app) from a dmg instead of copying it to the Applications folder.
