SketchUp 2026.1 is here!

I don’t think you’re ever going to see truly “free” AI features in software due to the heavy infrastructure costs. Those datacenters cost money and burn utilities for all the processing that has to happen - it’s a real ongoing cost

So in the release notes it says with my Pro subscription I get 150 AI credits / month. Three questions…

Do these roll over into the next month if not used?

They do not roll over month to month if not used, thats the monthly allotment and it replenishes each month.

What is the burn rate for the various activities?

Each of the various tool burn rates can be found in the AI Tools (i) Info button.

The AI assistant is a great replacement for the SU/LO web page help and is really quick in comparison, shouldn’t this be a free service?

Help is always free to use.

Hope that clears things up for you!

I guess another way to achieve this would be to make locking permanent. So that’s three different ways to achieve much the same thing. I would choose whichever is easiest to implement for developers.

I’m glad you’ve actually added the native PDF import function into the windows version, that’s been well overdue…BUT…it just imports it as and image and not a PDF Vector Graphic (which is editable and you can take measurements from it)…so I’ll still be using the PDF Import extension :man_shrugging:

They just rewrote the dwg importer and wrote a new pdf importer.

Chances that they are also working on a vector pdf importer are higher than ever.

Meanwhile, I’ll just open my pdf in free affinity, export as dxf, and scale it properly in SU. Simple

Same as it’s been on Mac for years.

Correct, we’re looking at bringing parity to the products. Our interoperability team is working on a much more robust PDF import system. Keep an eye out for that in the future!

I’ll try that, thanks :+1:

Wonderful!

This was an intentional change. When rotation handles were added to the Rotate tool you could easily get into a state where the rotation was locked to one of the handles, and was also being locked to the axis for the arrow key you pressed. That led to either no rotation, or unexpected rotation. Something similar could happen if you had clicked on a snap that is at an angle to the face it’s on. That would lock the rotation to a different direction than the axis the arrow key dictated.

Now, if you have tapped an arrow key to lock the rotation axis, the rotation handles are hidden.

If you want to lock the rotation to a particular axis, you can still do that before the first click.

Correct!

We are adding some more details to the product page for this subscription as well as in the “credit counter” in the client where you initiate the subscription purchase to help clear up this confusion.

We’ll be doing some updates to the purchase flow of this subscription to make it more clear how many credits are included, thanks for pointing this out and sorry for the confusion!

Im having the same problem as @steven3. I cannot open Layout files. No changes to anything. I looked at the preferences/Folders and it looks normal. I could open a 2023 file that was small but not “normal” projects even created in older versions. I took a simple SketchUp file and did a send to Layout and it would open with the Layout A3 paper or a simple B size template but not a “normal” template.

Edit: I was looking at some of the fixes. I went to see if the Tables were actually fixed. I selected my Scrapbooks and selected my Scrapbooks page for Schedules and Layout crashed. I did send a bugsplat if someone cares. I have gone back to the first release of 2016 until a stable release is published. I dont have time to play beta tester for free.

D5 has a bunch of AI features and all have been included with no additional costs to licensing!

Hi,

I imagine that purchasing these credits is managed separately from monthly credits.

For example, I buy 1000 credits, use them throughout the month, and at the end of the month, I have 100 left. I suppose that the following month I’ll have 250, meaning the remaining 100 purchased plus the additional 150 monthly credits.

Is that how it works? It won’t simply reset the credit balance to 150 ?

Another question: do these purchased credits have a limited duration?

Lastly, even if I buy credits, will I still be entitled to an additional 150 credits each month, or once I have more than 150 credits, are no more added?

Thank you.

I’ll be interested to see if it stays this way. That’s the only model I’ve seen that pitches “unlimited use without additional cost.”

It’s still not “free,” as the costs are subsidized by the license cost you pay to access D5 Pro - the free tier is limited to a certain number of generations.

If I had to guess, I’d bet that this will not remain as “unlimited use on all paid tiers” in the long run since most AI models calculate cost based on number of tokens used, so the more times users enter a prompt, the higher the cost is for the company.

To veer off the AI path for a moment. The Materials Browser dialog is still FUBAR in the newest version. It list all materials in the subfolders rather than as in each selected folder, AND this can make the drop down list ridiculously long, especially if you’re looking for a collection’s subfolder or material named near to the end of the alphabet !

What’s worse is that the user interface has unnecessarily doubled in size over the years, but it’s as if it’s been covered with gray foil so that we can’t read it like we used to…

I find the new UI much easier to use on a modern screen, most of that old Sketchup interface was made for a 1024*768 display from 2004 where that all would be been chunky at the time.

However, there is a load of it now that would never pass a contrast test for accessibility.

I agree, my main problem is the washed out colors. I don’t have a problem with the size when my external monitor is connected, but it’s not really useful on a 14" laptop.
