Hi, just tried updating Sketchup to 2024 version and for some reason it won’t work. I have downloaded the newest version to install on my Mac, bit it keeps getting stuck while trying to install it or I get a notification saying it can’t be open as the app is not responding. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
hi.
that’s odd because there is no install program for sketchup on mac. it’s a simple drag and drop into the application folder.
is this the step that blocks ?
Hi, thank you for getting back to me.
I am able to drag and drop into the application folder. Once I double click on Sketchup, the application starts opening but nothing happens. I then get a notification saying ‘The app can’t be open because Sketchup is not responding’.
Help?!?
What if you click and drag instead of double clicking on SketchUp?
and if you right click on sketchup and choose open ?
your mac might be configured in a more secure way than most.
what mac OS version are you using ? it’s not in your profile
Tried right clicking as well, no response.
I am using Sonoma 14.6.1
Hi Dave,
I dragged it into the application folder with no issues. I then either double click on it, or right click and choose the Open option. It looks like it’s initiating, I see the icon popping up on dock. But nothing happens afterwards and I get the above mentioned notification.
Really odd, I have been using Sketchup for a while now with no issues (of this nature).
it’s almost as if it’s trying to create all the other files in the library, but it can’t.
are you an admin ? (or the sole account)
Hi, I am indeed the only account on the laptop.
Just checked my husbands laptop, very similar specs, I was able to download it and open files no problem.
Can anyone think of a solution here? I need it for work and can’t use his laptop indefinitely:(
Hi again,
I just looked at the both files, and the created file on my husbands laptop has today’s date, but mine keeps showing me August 27,2025, even tho I tried to removing all Sketchup related files and starting from scratch. Is it possible it’s somehow being conflicted and trying to open some leftover older files?
What date does your computer think it is? Maybe try setting the date correctly.
Could a firewall be blocking SketchUp from accessing the license server?
ok that’s a new one.
I’ll second Dave, could your computer think it’s one year ahead maybe ?
because the date is right, not the year
The date is correct, Oct 2. But when I download Sketchup, the file is dated August 27. (both created and make deified under information). That’s when I may have done a big update while trying to resolve some Enscape issues. If I remember correctly. I have removed all references to Sketchup to download a clean installer, still dated August 27, 2024
Again, my computer’s date is correct. Showing Oct2,2024. Just the Sketchup installer showing Aug27,2024.
How do I verify the firewall situation please?
Just checked and the firewallon my computer is actually inactive.
Before you wrote:
Which is it?
Sorry Dave that was a typo. The installer is dated August 2024, even tho I just downloaded it again this morning.
yes. that’s normal. if you come to the forum and look at my previous messages, you’ll see a screenshot from my machine with the same date.
it is not an installer. it is the application, straight away. and the date is from when sketchup dev team pre packed it before release.
the issue at hand is unrelated to the date.
in mac os, can you go to the menu go
then at the bottom, go to folder
and paste this
~/Library/Application Support/
in there, there should be a sketchup 2024 folder. can you delete it and then relaunch the application ?
short of that I’m running out of ideas, @colin maybe something we overlooked ?
