SketchUp 2023 Low Resolution of Tool Icons on a 4k Monitor!

You are using the Large Toolset toolbar which has special spacing. I do not use this toolbar & never have.
I also do not use the Getting Started toolbar with the extra space that the flyout buttons have.

I customize my toolbars as you should be able to see. (I copy the login and search buttons to the left end of the Standard toolbar.) ALL my left side toolbars are single row, docked in two columns.

DxDiag output is not necessary. There is nothing wrong here.

FYI, I currently have anti-aliasing set to 4x, but I can go up to 16x if I wish.

Sorry, I thought it was the user with the issues who had posted that.
Curious to see their DXdiag as there are a few ways that I can cause blurry things in general use (although not SketchUp 2023 specific)
I was referring to the spacing at the top of the window, but as you aren’t that user and are on Win10, that makese more sense.

p.s. my toolbars are all higgledy piggildy up as I have been demoing at a trade show for the last few days.

The height of the window caption bar? It does look a bit smaller on Win 11 doesn’t it?

FYI - SketchUp 2023 must use a display with both recommended resolution and display scaling. The build of the Qt library (that SketchUp is currently using) does not support custom settings.

I would also suggest updating the Nvidia display driver if you have not done so in a while.
There are also two driver editions, and “Game ready” and a “Studio”. If one doesn’t work so well, try the other.

I myself am on the Studio edition driver (as I don’t do gaming.)

yeah, must be something they’ve made smaller.

Thanks for the detailed answers. I will try to update the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics card driver to a new version. I have installed the July GeForce Game Ready driver version 536.67. I’ll try with a Studio Driver. The paradox is that so many unsuccessful experiments have been done with the new version of Sketchup 2023 to fix incorrectly displayed icons. In other CAD programs , under the same conditions and drivers , there have been no problems with icons for many years :grinning:

Has anyone found a fix for this issue? I just installed Sketchup Pro 2023 and I have low resolution icons and the workspace doesn’t take up the full window.

Why would Sketchup switch to a framework that doesn’t support UI scaling in the age of higher resolution monitors becoming the standard?

I was forced to upgrade from Sketchup 2021 because they disabled the Sketchup extension store. Now my company has paid $349 for a product that doesn’t work? It’s been almost a year since this was initially reported. I understand the argument that it takes time to work out issues using 3rd party frameworks, but they shouldn’t have forced people to “upgrade” to a product that doesn’t work and surely should have offered some solution in the 10 months that it has been a known issue.

This is how you run a company into the ground. The new subscription model that they’ve forced has ensured that they get the money every single year and they don’t appear to have used that money to make a better product, or even a working product.

you didn’t have too. the extension store is here. free to access. the only difference is that you access it in your browser, and that you have to manually install the rbz files

https://extensions.sketchup.com/

also, you should check Sketchucation.

I was able to access the extension store online to purchase an extension, but it said to download the extension that I had to do it from the extension store in Sketchup. The extension I needed for this job I’m working on is not available in Sketchucation (which I love and have used for many years).

If I’m mistaken and you have an idea of how I can download the extension from the Trimble extension store using a web browser, then I will gladly do it and maybe I can go back to using what worked and didn’t cost hundreds of dollars every year. I have a strong suspicion that they removed the ability to download from the website to force people out of their classic licenses and switch to a own nothing and be happy model.

Do people realize that if something is buggy in 2023 they don’t have to upgrade… they can just keep working on whatever version works for them…

I am still on 2022, didn’t bother with 23 except for LayOut for the override on export function.

what’s the extension’s name ?

here is the process.

find the extension in extension warehouse.

click download. it’ll give you a rbz file.

in sketchup, find the extension manager.

bottom left button, click on “install”. find your rbz file you just downloaded.

enjoy extension.

This may work for free extensions, but extensions requiring a purchased license like I mentioned require you to open the Sketchup extension store from within Sketchup. After I purchased the extension on the website using the web browser I receive this message. There is no download button only and install button, and when you click install it gives this message.

The version that worked for me was 2021, I’ve tried 2022 and 2023 and neither of them appear to work with my setup for whatever reason. 2021 still works flawlessly with the exception that if I want to download any purchased extension that I can’t because they disabled that ability. You can no longer download paid extensions from the extension store using a web browser or in the software itself. In other words they broke the old version, before getting any newer version working. Does that make sense?

this is getting off topic, an admin might consider cutting the discussion out and take it to the extension part

ping to @colin - is this an official policy ? (not sure whom to ping for EW matters) weird since the EW still lists older versions, that it doesn’t allow you to download extensions you bought.

I don’t find Natale Zappia on the forum, but on the extension page you can contact him directly. if you have a proof of purchase at hand, you might ask him for the rbz file ?

edit : right now, you could try installing it in SU23, then look in the plugin folder, and copy both elements under the right name. pase them into SU21’s folder.
might work. might not work. depend on why the EW is needed in the first place

@Suforyou you might want to look at this, since you offer (for a price) an extension that allows you to open newer files in older sketchup version.

If people can’t buy and install it on older version anymore, you might have a business plan issue there

I’ve been corresponding with support via email and they said there is no fix to get Sketchup 2022 or 2023 working on my machine and have proceeded with the refund, but this still leaves the issue of not being able to download purchased extensions via the browser. Email support seems to be under the impression this is still possible, it appears however that this is not the case.

Is it the official Sketchup policy that purchased extensions can no longer be downloaded from the extension warehouse website via web browser?

It looks like for a few years now you could only install and license and extension from within SketchUp. Support sent you a suggestion earlier this afternoon, to say that you can contact the developer of extensions you want to use in 2021. I can give you an invoice for the 8 paid extensions I see for you, and you could show that to the developer to prove you have paid for it.

At least one of your extensions seems not to be in Extension Warehouse any more. I believe the author of that one (Face Cutter) does post in the forum, and might answer a question if you ask where you can get the extension these days.

Do you still have a computer with the plugins already installed, even in an older version of SketchUp? In most cases those could be copied into place in the right folder for 2021 to see them.
