maybe in the (hopefully coming soon) update the images are be set to proper size for typical monitor settings - like 1920x1080 should be easy enough to create a magnifying icon to fit. then higher res if would be smaller but how many people need a “scenes search”?
Well son of a #@&%*!)&$…Yea I guess in Trimble’s infinite wisdom they decided that the import feature should be paid for…so it’s an extra $300 for this feature or $500 to get a Revit license for a year…
So last year the took away Sefaira and decided to sell that for $1200 a year by itself (and you can tell by my tone how disappointed I am with that!)…now they pull the bait and switch by bragging that we have this really great tool…but “oh yea by the way…uhm it doesn’t come with the PRO plan”…well what the heck is a PRO plan if you don’t give us PROFESSIONAL features?..
I gotta be honest here…for the first time in my life I am thinking about hunkering down and learning Revit just to avoid this bitterness I have had to endure for the last 2 years…I absolutely love this program but this attitude from Trimble is getting really old and hard to handle…
Guess I am going to go hang out in the “Really Disappointed” thread from now on…this really stinks…
You are beginning to understand the concept of subscription.
Hi Sketchup team,
I’m adding a voice to make the revit feature available to pro users, even as an option (if you want more credit for it than the actual pro subscription)
Bundling it with studio is particularly unfair for people who don’t use Vray or already have a separate chaos licence.
I would also be in favor to make layout and Sketchup for ipad separate options too.
Making different bundles for everyone would truly embrace what Sketchup is : a highly customizable (and great) tool.
That sounds easy enough to make, isn’t it?
Well, I know I won’t have answers, but thanks for reading it anyway ![]()
Good day to all
+1 on this.
They are just dropping ANY respect for 3d generalists.
I don’t use Sketchup for architectural design work, I use it because is a good polygon modeling package with better snapping and measurement capability compared to 3dsMax or Blender.
I dont’ use an Ipad, i just work on a regular pc with 2 monitors like any other professional 3d artist sane in mind.
I don’t give a ■■■■ about Layout. It’s a separate software and should be sold separately.
Same for Vray, I use it in Max, and also use other standalone render engines.
So why should I subscribe? The actual “modeling improvements” are things that are available since more than ten years ago with free mirror plugins and selection toys.
I will rather buy more plugins to add functionality to Sketchup, but I can’t see why I should subscribe if they don’t add actual modeling features anymore.
Revit importer itself could be a separate plugin… I would probably buy that (if it was perpetual license like most plugins are) to be able to easily import models from architects every now and then.
But hey… 700$ yearly subscription for that? Are you kiddin’ me?
I’ve tried it for 1 time only and found bugs :
- 2 points arc : Cannot define an arc with radius (with a suffix “r” , eg : 2r means 2 meters with default unit is meter)
- edit a texture on image editor application then save it doesn’t update texture on sketchup
It never did.
According to SketchUp help it can be done.
Here is the text from SU help:
Tip: Immediately after you draw a 2-point arc, you can change the bulge, radius, or number of segments with the Measurements box. Remember that you don’t need to click in the Measurements box first; simply type a value and press Enter or Return. Here’s how to change each value:
** Bulge distance:* After you finish creating a 2-point arc, the Measurements box is ready to accept a Bulge value by default. Simply type the value and units (if different from the default units in your template).
** Radius:* You can specify an arc radius instead of a bulge distance. Type the desired radius in the Measurements box and add the letter R for radius. For example: 24r or 3’6"r or 5mr
** Number of segments:* Type a number and followed by the letter S for segments. For example: 20s
yes it is according to sketchup help, and it works in previous version but not in 2023. I suggest to try by yourself first.
That is something we know about. It will be fixed in an update. I can’t give you an estimate for when that update will be ready.
I didn’t notice that.
Apparently you are right, that does work in 2021 and doesn’t in 2023.
By the way it only works if you overwrite the texture in the Temp folder, which is something I would never do.
I usually save different versions of my textures in the proper project folders, so that I can actually make them work also in other applications using the model.
Not a big deal, by the way.
well it still work in 2022.
it is big deal for someone who need to optimize the textures without need to save them to their personal material library. for example if you receive model from someone or 3dwh and feels it is heavy, probably some textures has HD quality and we don’t need that, so we just edit that texture in image editor and resize accordingly then save it. That’s only example case.
Sure, but that’s is a destructive workflow, I usually tend to be as non destructive as possible. That’s probably why I didn’t notice that in so many years.
I’ve tried several solutions, but they don’t seem to work …
I will keep trying.
I don’t have a lot to add to the discussion except that I’m happy with the introduction of the flip tool.
I had been moaning about the lack of that capability for years so that’s out of the way. It works nicely. Good job. The only thing I would change about it is to have the default set to flip + copy with the option to turn it off. A minor point but that would be my selfish preference.
So… On to my 2nd major long-standing campaign:
Components for LayOut.
Yes I know there have been some fancy features introduced like sequencing auto text, but this is an even more fundamental requirement in my view.
In terms of helping to drive the Construction Documents market (which is my area of expertise), this would be a major improvement. The whole idea behind LayOut is mostly construction documents, isn’t it?
To the developers: Thanks for listening to my rant, and please think about this important point.
Sure, it works nicely… but it was sort of non-problem already solved.
When I use the Flip tool there are 2 issues.
- 3D text is backwards like in a mirror
- I have a perfect square for the container (geometry) and when I flip a second time it is not back to where it was.
It appears that sketchup applies a transformation matrix to the outermost container (group or component)
Yes I knew that those plugins were available. I installed them on occasion but I always felt strongly that SU needed to have it’s own native mirror function like Autocad already had. In demonstrating SU to clients it was embarrassing to have to explain to them that this basic function required a plugin. It made SU look kind of amateur.
I can ear you.
Also the fact that other basic stuff like a 2 click sphere or a chamfer should be done with an extension is quite embarrassing. But, you know…
